Question about Toshiba 51H84 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

No picture, just went off while watching tv

We were watching the tv one day and the picture collapsed to the middle and went black. The red power light was blinking and the tv itself was making a clicking noise. The 1st repair guy said it needed a new transistor..he ordered one from Toshiba, it worked for 2 weeks leaving a pink line in the middle of the picture (repair man said it was because the bulbs burned that line there when the picture collapsed). I called them back out when it went out again and they put in another transistor thinking the 1st one was defective. (these took 4 weeks to get by the way). Again, worked for 2 weeks then went black again. Called Sperry TV out and they said another part needed to be fixed. They ordered it, when he put it in, something blew and he said, "I think the other repair main sabotaged your tv." Sperry ordered 3 parts thinking this would solve the problem and it didn't. He now says they need to take the tv into their shop, do a probe (which will cost me $159 even if they can't fix it), and then go from there. Metro, the 1st repair place, said I needed to replace all the bulbs for it to be fixed...the 3 big bulbs in the tv which are about $250 each. I don't know who to believe, I think one of them ruined my tv when it could have been a simple fix, and now I don't know what I should do. When I bought the tv it was almost $4000.00 so I kinda feel like I should pay to have it fixed instead of buying a new one...what can I do?

The pink lines in the set happened when the first time it blew out. It is called a burn in on the inside surface of the picture tubes. Not the fault of the TV repair guy. This is the fault of Toshiba. This set has known to have this happen and you should contact toshiba and request that they replace all three tubes for you at no cost. You should also stop using these repair guys who cannot fix a simple vertical problem. Find out who is authorized for Toshiba in your area and call them. They will know, or should know the problems that happens with this model number and take care of them once and for all. Good Luck

RCA Model# LED32B30RQD Tv has sound no picture. Picture went black while i was watching it. Can see image in dark room with flash light. TV has power supply board, video board. Start with video board?

That board right in the middle is the power board and it powers the LED backlights. This is a common failure on this model and the board is not in stock in most places.

How do I fix the problem with my TV? Details are below.

Normally on the Panasonic tv this will call for a service call. The key to getting it repaired correctly is to check for a certified Samsung repair shop because most of the parts come from Samsung. Now if you want to do your own research call to 800 number for Panasonic Tv see if there are any problems with that model that the manufacturer has extended but does not post. I had one repaired that the red light on also so I understand and it went out approximately 4 3/4 years. If your in the Atlanta area use Norman electronics they have repaired hundreds on tvs for me due to my work.

Picture looks dark

I have same model. First set went out of convergence, and I was able to adjust it. A few days later I had same problem and fixed it again. Then I was no longer able to adjust it. I watched TV the way it was. The picture got darker.Then I was watching TV, and there was a flash from the middle of the picture, and TV powered itself off. I unplugged TV and plugged it in 30 seconds later. I powered TV on, and red LED on front panel blinked a few times, and stopped. TV powered itself off.

From what I learned, the LAMP has to be replaced, and so do the convergence chips and convergence resistors. The TV shop charges around $300 and up just for the convergence chips. The TV is selling on craigs list for $150 to $200 in good working condition.

You have to decide if the repairs are worth your while. Probably not in mmost cases.

My tv is 2 years old and in the last month or so in the middle of a show the screen will go black and a red line runs down the middle and it lasts for about 5 min and a little pop sound and the picture...

It appears you may have had a line collapse caused by a poor connection in the line output stage, it would be a matter of resoldering around this area. Now that you say it will come on could indicate that a component has now failed as a result of the line collapsing, more than likely the line output transistor has now also failed & would need replacing.

Did you mean the picture is collapsed only in the middle horizontally(white line appears on the middle part of the screen)?
If that is the case, maybe vertical IC failed or loose connection.

Problem with tv

Its known as 'screen collapse' and yes it can be fixed but it may not be economical you should get some quotes from your local tv repairers.
