Re: cant get wife to connect is the wireless icon
no the wifi stay blinking on activity, but the wireless connection on the laptop has to stay on
1. first have you tried with the ISP if you need any Proxy settings or specific IP address. 2. also check with the ISP if you need any specific DNS server settings 3. if the above two are given or not required but the router still does not give out connections then try this instead of connecting the cable from the Modem to the slot named INTERNET try connecting it in one of the out going slots (numbered 1,2,3,4) and now connect the other systems as usual.
PS: if this has been any bit useful pls rate it, thanks

In the settings you need to choose connect to WiFi and then pick your wireless router. If you don't have a wireless router, you won't be able to login to the net.
You could try to login on a free hotspot like with Starbucks or Mac Donald. But as soon as you are 10 feet away from the building you won't have Wife.
make sure the wireless adapter is enabled. You can do that by right clicking the monitor icon on your lower right side of the tool bar...unless you use a MAC. Then look for connections. Some devices have a lock slide that needs to be turned on to use wireless adapter and/or even have a wifi button you can press. Is your laptop not recognising the router?
you may need to manually input the ip adress or MAC of router in ds. on on your cpu, you can look up your router and its properties, record ththe type of securtiy or encryption, the pass word, mac address and ip address .
On ds, check to see if ip auto config is enabled or DHCP enabled. if after scanning and connection faills, manually configure wifi settings to mmatch those found earliear on your cpu running the router, entering the mac, ipaddress ect. also be sure you are not to far from the router and the wife switch is turned on somewhere on side of unit so the wifi arcs symbol is iluminated or lit up
Use the network setup wizard to connect to your network, and the internet. Unless you did this already.
You can get the wizard from Control Panel, Network ... , Connect to a Network. If wired you won't need key, it's for wireless only.
Yo did not say what OS, so info is a little generic.
Hope this helps.
By default, wireless routers always broadcast wifi signal. The only thing you need to do is to enable the wifi radio receiver of your laptop. To do it, make sure that you have the wifi LED lit in your laptop which means that your wifi receiver is ON. Now, you need to connect your modem to your router so that your router will then broadcast internet signal. Then you are good to go. Your laptop should get connected automatically and receive internet signal.
If you want to configure your router, visit http://192.168.1.1 when you are connected to the network so that you can change some of your router's behavior.
You may need to turn the WiFi card on. Many Laptops allow you to turn the cards off to save power. Look for a button acros the top of the keyboard or on the side whick may have a WiFi logo or a little aerial icon.
there are many ways to setup/configure a wireless router. the easiest way for me is to plug your modem to the router, (even though unplugged, there should be a wireless network signal on your device that has a wifi but no internet connection) once connected, plug the modem to the wireless router then reset it, wait a few seconds then you'll get an unsecured network with internet access on it. usually, the only use for the cd is to make you configure it easier like putting a password on it etc.
by default, dell systems' switch for wireless can be done by pressing Fn and tap F2. The wifi light should lit up. Your modem is integrated to the motherboard. If you were able to lit up the wifi light, this should be able to detect wireless signals for you to connect to.
