Don't know how badly yours is damaged, but the part # for a new one is 795477. That also includes the pump diaphragm and gasket. Remember to put the rubber diaphragm against the tank with gasket on top, then the carb.

Briggs & Straton 158cc engine on a MTD 21" walk behind lawn mower. The engine revs up and down on its own. What is causing the problem?

This is usually caused by either the introduction of air between the carb and the engine (loose carb mounting bolts or nuts) or.... debis in the fuel system. The debris in the fuel system would be on a float bowl type carb. If you have the carb that is mounted on top of the gas tank... tighten the screws that hold the carb to the tank.

If you pass me a complete / exact engine number off of the air shroud by the spark plug lead, I will pass you a parts list and identify the parts you need to look at.

We can get this corrected.. just need that engine model / type / series number.

Describe your Briggs Stratton Lawnmower Lawn Mower Short Block Problem. I have model# 11A-414E765 Lawn Mower. Starts ok but is surging and when I checked a brand new spark plug it was full of black dust...

I am pretty sure this is a 4.5 Hp engine with the carb on top of the tank. Plastic carb 4 or 5 mounting screws mating carb to tank. Remove the air cleaner... and tighten the carb to fuel tank mating screws. It is drawing air between the tank and the carb. This should stop the surging. If is has been a long period that you used the mower with the surging problem the diaphragm between the tank and the carb may be either out of position or damaged. The diaphragm is not expensive. Usually the first time this symptom presents itself you can resolve it by tightening the carb to tank scresw. IF you have the primer bulb carb..mash the rubber of the bulb against the carb body. If the surging stops... the primber bulb has a pin hole in it.

You passed the mower model number and not the engine model number. When we use the 11A number you passed all we get is the base and handle parts. If you need more help I need the model number off the engine just above the spark plug wire on the air shroud.

I have a lt 1018, It has good compression, gas to the carb, spark at at plug. It will crank but will not run, spit and spat then stops. It all started when I his a bump and the safty switch at seat...

Sounds like the safety switch under the seat is damaged. You can replace it or disable the switch altogether. But if disabling the switch, always be aware that the safety was there for a reason. You could temporarily bypass/disable the switch until you can get the proper repair part.

The lawn mower will start but after about ten seconds it quits. Then it is hard to start up again.

I looked up your engine in the mower parts manual below: (232kb)
The engine number is: 10T802-1098-B1 vs EA

The ENGINE operators manual is here: (7.66mb & not much help)

The engine parts list is here:
Open the diagram carburetor controls fuel supply and governor spring or use this parts manual link to download the engine parts pdf file: (Best!)

Either the primer bulb item 976 has a pin hole in it or... the diaphragm item 394 has a pin hole in it.
Given the cost of both parts I would replace them both and send you on your merry way if you brought it to me for repair.

There are 2 part numbers for the diaphragm. 795083 (Most models) and 796478 used on type 156 models. The type number is usually on the air shroud near the spark plug.

The primber bulb 694394 is common to both engine types.

As I mentioned earlier one of these items has failed. I recommend you replace them both and your mower will run fine. ( The gas tank and carb have to be removed as an assembly before you can change the carb diaphragm once the tank is removed.

Husquvarna gas trimmer model 25r need a carburator kit which we cannot find

I am thinking that this is your model and model year (25R 1986-2010 Line Trimmer). Here it is.
Keep record of the carburetor kit part number in case you find it elsewhere for maybe a lower price.

If this is NOT your trimmer, you can look around on this site till you find it. There are many Huskys listed and a few of them bearing the model number you have given. I hope this helps.

Engine dies

Check and clean your gas tank. If still a problem there might be dirt in the carb.

Same Problem with the 4.5hp B.S. 21" Yardmachine Walkbehind Mower

This is what I would do... Remove the fuel tank and carb assy.. Two bolts, one behind the gas cap and one on the end of the tank. Pull it straight off the intake pipe then unhook it from the throttle link. Now, unscrew the carb from the tank. Clean the carb with a can of carb cleaner. Slip the screen off the pickup and make sure it's clean. Discard the pump diaphragm and gasket. Buy a new pump diaphragm kit, part #795083. Clean the top of the tank where the pickup with the screen fits into. Put it back together. Remember to put the rubber diaphragm against the tank and the gasket on top of it then the carb. Don't forget to attach the breather tube when you're putting it back on the engine. That should fix 'er up. Also, if the rubber ring and plastic retainer ring came off on the intake pipe when you pulled the carb and tank off, put them back in the end of the carb before sliding it back on the intake.

Replacement part for Craftsman 650 Briggs & Stratton 22" multi cut mower Model #917.376741

You first need to locate the model number on the mower, not the Briggs engine. Then go to and enter your model number on the right side of the web page. This will take you to a list of parts for your mower. Your model number should be located on the deck of the mower (you didn't say if it was a rider or a push). Rider model numbers are located on the rear of the body behind, on or under the seat. Push model numbers are found on the back of the deck between where the handles attach to the frame.
