To determine whether this error is due to a cartridge failure or a hardware problem with the printer, do the following: Make sure the printer is powered on. Open the printer's top cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position. Press down on the cartridge lever to raise the cartridge lid. Remove the cartridges. With the cartridges out of the printer, close the top cover. Power the printer OFF and then back ON. Check the operator panel to see if the 1203 error has returned or if a new message is displayed. If the message displayed is 1203, there is something wrong with the printer hardware. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support. If the message is Cartridge Missing, reinstall the cartridges into the printer. Insert the black cartridge in the left carrier. Insert the color cartridge in the right carrier. Snap the lids closed. Close the top cover. Check the operator panel. If the 1203 message is still present, you need to insert one cartridge at a time to determine which cartridge is producing the failure. With one cartridge in the carrier, close the top cover and check the operator panel. If the 1203 message is displayed, that cartridge is producing the error. If Cartridge Missing is displayed, the second cartridge is the defective item. Please replace the defective cartridge.

Cartridge Error 50C
Your print cartridge has shorted.
1. Power off your All-in-One and unplug it.
2. Plug in your All-in-One again and turn it on.
3. Uninstall and then reinstall your cartridges.
4. If this does not resolve the issue, try the troubleshooting steps for the other cartridge errors below.
Error: Black Cartridge Missing
The black cartridge is not installed. (Install cartridge PN 82)
Error: Color Cartridge Missing
The color cartridge is not installed (Install cartridge PN 83)
Complete the following instructions:
1. Power off your All-in-One.
2. Use both hands to lift up the scanner unit until the scanner support holds it open.
3. Turn the All-in-One on. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.
4. Remove the color print cartridge.
5. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
6. If the error message reappears, replace the black print cartridge with a new print cartridge.
If it does not repeat steps 1-3 and then go to step 7.
7. Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black print cartridge.
8. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
9. If the error message occurs again, replace the color cartridge.
10. If an error message reappears, repeat steps 1-3 and reinstall both print cartridges.
11. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
12. If you receive the error message again, replace both cartridges.

1: Make surethe All-In-One is powered on.
2: Pull thecontrol panel towards you, and then open the cartridge access door.The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loadingposition.
3: Pull the old cartridges towards you,and then lift them out.
With the cartridges outof the printer, shut the access door and the control panel.
Power the printer OFFand then back ON.
Check the operator panelto see if the same error has returned or if a new message hasappeared.
If the message displayed is 1203,there is something wrong with the printer hardware.
If themessage now displaying is Cartridge Missing, do thefollowing:
4: Reinstall the cartridges into the printer.
Insert the color cartridge in the left carrier.Insert the black cartridge in the right carrier.
5: Push back firmly on the cartridges until they snapsecurely into place.
Close the cartridgeaccess door, and then close the control panel.
If the 1203message is still present on the operator panel, you need toinsert one cartridge at a time to determine which cartridge isproducing the failure.
With one cartridge in thecarrier, close the access door and control panel.
Check the operator panel.If the 1203 error is displayed, this cartridge isthe defective item.
If the Cartridge Missing messageis displayed, the second cartridge is producing the failure.
Please replace the defective cartridge.

You may not see a paper jam.
This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.
And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.
