Poddar, You've got a failed magnetron. After it engages it's leaks microwaves (radio frequencies) into the control area behind the touchpad and scrambles the IC board in there. It'll have to be replaced.
Here's the thing... MW ovens should NEVER be repaired by untrained people... lurking inside is a high voltage capacitor that stores up to 2,500 volts DC and is just waiting for someone to make the wrong move. When the wrong move is made, the cap discharges all 2,500 volts in a fraction of a second. At best it'll just knock you out... at worst you'll be a few days in the Hospital.
OK, all the gruesome stuff is said... now for the good news. GE places a 10 year warranty on their magnetrons! So here's what you do... Call around to some appliance repair companies and get quotes for installing an over-the-range MW magnetron (labor only 'cause you'll supply the magnetron) and go with the cheapest. Then you call GE customer support at 1-800-GE-CARES and provide them with the model and serial number for you machine (it's on a sticker inside the cavity). Then tell them that your MW was diagnosed with a failed magnetron and ask them to send one to you free of charge. They might give you some lip about "only an authorized GE repair guy blah, blah, blah", if they do that just tell them that you already have an installer for it (GE factory guy's aren't cheap, btw) and if "you won't ship it to me, let me speak to your superviser". They'll send it to ya, I've done it a thousand times.
After the magnetron arrives at your doorstep, call the repair company and get them to come out and install it. There ya go!

I used my microwave to boil water and over the course of the last 3 years the steam from the boiling water has caused the bottom to bubble and now it is completely rusted out. It still heats and defrosts foods well but it doesn't rotate the plate because of the uneven surface on the bottom. What can I do to repair it?
