Question about LG 22" FLATRON LCD Monitor

LG L226WTQBF black screen with blue light on power on button

One evening I come home and find out that my monitor is completely black.

The button on this LG L226WTQBF looks like the wings of a bird, when there's a cable (non-digital) connected it lights up blue, but no picture.

I tried to find a manual to fix this monitor, but can't find one so thought I'd try posting on fixya.

I am a software engineer, and can follow instructions to open, fix and put the monitor back together. Thus far I haven't touched/opened it other then connect to a different desktop machine.

If you're reading this and have a suggestion/tip/fix let me know at dsajoel@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Joel

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Hi sophie,

I see you want to extend you monito to an LG external monitor.

Have you tried selecting the input PC or the input that is for the cable that you are using for the Video.

If you are using HDMI select the Input HDMI on your LG if you are using DVI then you should select the input DVI to be able to get the signal from the Laptop come out of your LG.

I hope this helps.

Have a nice day,

I switch on my PC, ensuring that all cables, leads and power supplies are connected properly. The tower powers up no problems at all. I switch the screen on, the green led lights up, the screen is completely black. A blue box appears centrally on the screen with the text 'power saving mode'. The green led light turns amber and then the screen just goes black.

Please don't suggest going to control panel, as I can't get that far.

PLEASE PLEASE CAN ANYONE SUGGEST ANYTHING give me

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed LG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Westinghouse 26" HDTV LCD Monitor Power comes on, blue light on the button but no display at all the screen remains black can't even go to menu options

You may have power supply failure, the backlight inverter board may not be getting the 24vdc from the power supply, or the problem can be the inverter board itself like blown fuse. You need to open it up and post back what you see, pictures will help a lot. See my pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Hp pavilion f1703 blue monitor power button flashesw/ dark screen

Have you tried connecting this monitor to another computer, even a laptop. This would tell you whether the display is bad or the video card is the culprit. I suspect the monitor's power supply is dying. Taking it to a pro for repair should cost @55.00. Buying a new monitor @ $100 - $125.

Screen is blank.

Could have blown some capacitors inside the monitor.
I just fixed one today that had no power, the blue ring around the power button didn't even light up when plugged in.
I open it and found 3 bulgingcapacitors on the power/inverter board.
They were all 25V 470uF rated capacitors.
Went to radioshack and found 2 35V 470uf, got them at $1.29 each, then I found 1 50V 470uF out of a dc car power adapter for an ipod, it was as close as I could find.
Replaced the 3 broken/bulging ones with the new/salvaged ones, put it back together, plugged it in and the blue light came on when I pushed the power button.
Plugged it in to my laptop with vga cable, and it works great.
