Open Question

Model VS10769-1m Power supply secondary appears to have a surface mount resistor off of pin 4 of ICS1 between QS2 can anyone help. I've aready replaced a 1000mf 25v cap causing the on/off problem but this is a set Iwas givin after someone else couldn't handle the job. email is bubbalicis_1@netzero.net

its better if you replace the whole power supply board rather than replace the burnt surface mount parts because commonly if the surface mount parts burnt out there are some shorted parts that cause that burnt and possibly repeat the problem..

Please rate..

I replace the convergence chips and all the resistors, and still got the warped picture,What i need to do now ,please help.Tanks

You did not supply a model number so can't narrow this down further. However it could be several things which may be:

1) The STK chips you used were defective.
2) When removing the original STK chips you also removed a surface mount resistor in the area
3) You have a fuse blown either on that board you did the work on or a power board
4) Check for good solder joints and make sure you didn't short out any pins to an adjacenent pin.

If I was to guess, I would say in order I would expect it to be item 3 above first, then 4, then 1 then 2.

While replacing the caps on on the LCT32HA36 power supply i noticed a corroded solder joint the Z3 diode. When i attempted to re-solder it the trace came off the circuit board and I lost the R3XX surface...

The resistors are color coded. There should be 3 bands which are slightly separate from the 4th band. The 4th band is usually gold, silver,or i forget the third color which is actaually a %.The top 3 bands can tell me the value of the resistor. If you tell me all 4 colors I should be able to tell you the value, with the gold/silver/whatever as the fourth. The first one should be right near the end or top.The only 1 problem will be trying to determine the wattage rating but is usually very small within a circuit.Greg

Hello. I am a old tech, so struggle a little bit with this unit. It appears that the 12 volt power relay is not getting any signal, thus the 110 is not connected to the first set of power sections. It...

The relay shorts out two power resistors that limit the input power surge. The circuit is complex a bit. An off-line small switching power supply fires up and "heats up" the rest of the circuit for the main power switcher. I have repaired about four of these. Usually a failure due to arcing in the power amp section fries three transistors there and often a Zener diode. This then wipes out the main +/- 70 volt supply. The two IGBT's are usually blown including the four driver traansistors and the switching regulator chip and another small surface mounted transistor and one or both speedup surface mounted 1N4148's. IF THE fuse had been replaced to try again, often the two power resistors (sand coated ceramic) that ar 10 Watt either 10 or 20 ohms will be blown. Some of the hardest thing is to get the heatsinks loose with the IGBT's. When restarting the supply AFTER repair, one puts about 100 Watt lamp bulb in series with the 120 power input to act as a limiting fuse. You will NOT get far with this without a schematic. Power supply HP-A3108F3P Line rectified voltage is good, 310 V. No output voltages, no voltage on UC3843, no oscillation. Switching Mosfet is ok. Need help, thanks.

That could be a problem on secondary side. Shorted rectifier diode.

Please do check start up resistor of uc3843, I think its on pin 7 with 110Kohms or 56Kohms value for 220VAC or 110VAC supply input respectively. Open or change value, it is a fusible resistor. If open do check other components for defects. Don't substitute a common resistor on this one. Datasheet could help you alot.

A word of warning, the voltage may bite and enough to kill. So take necessary precaution, if in doubt let the tech handle it. Or buy a new one.

I have a PMP5000 that I had to resurect. I had to trace out the power supply to repair it.

I can give you hint: First, a small supply runs directely from the line and generates some of the small voltages. While this starts, the main power caps are charged through limiting resistors. The main switcher is brought online and if the power amps acheive balance, then a relay connects the speakers and shorts the limiting resistors.

This is what is in the 5000 and I suspect the 3000 is similar.

In my 5000, there was arcing at one side of the power amps. The board was burned and three power fets fried. Cancer of burned board had to be carved out and traces replaced by hardwiring.
In addition, the limiting resistors were blown open, both main switching transistors were blown and 4 small driver transistors (surface mounted) and several diodes AND a switching regulator chip (surface mounted).all fried/

Hint: When restarting the unit, put a 150 watt light in series with one of side of the power input to limit the current in case you did not get all the dead bodies out.

This is a class "D" amp which drives PCM waves into a filter which is then the audio output. It is much more efficient thaan a linear amp.

switch mode power supply? it has a in or primary side and out the secondary side of a switch mode transformer.

check the driver IC that runs Q102 it makes a oscillation that Q102 amplifies. now the secondary if has a short will blow the Q102 look for shorted rectifiers in the secondary and fuse resistors that are open, even go far downstream and check the HOT for short.

AKAI LCT2701td TV No Picture

I had the same problem; the blinking light problem is caused by a bad power supply. It try’s to power up but senses a failure so it shuts down and just keeps repeating this process. I troubleshot the problem and found that zener diode Z3 (27volt 1 watt) was shorted and zener resistor forgot designation (2 surface mount 10 ohm resistors in parallel) were open. The zener is under a heat sink so it is hard to see. Also there were 4 1000uf capacitors that were bulging so I changed them as well. I got the parts from digikey for 20 bucks and its now working fine. This was a lower cost TV at the time of purchase so it seem the manufacture used low quality parts and I would suggest trying to return the TV to Costco before fixing it. Good luck.
