Question about Electric Kettles
Red operating light comes on but element doesn't heat the water
I have a cordless, but dont know the model. The red light comes on but does not heat the water. Please advise, if the element needs replacing and who repairs these kettles in Durban, South Africa. Tks Heather
OK, inside the unit there are three items, the heating element, thermostat, and thermal fuse. What has happened is the element got too hot and the thermal fuse opened. There is no reset button. In some cases you may run across a defective heating element or thermostat but its not common. The fix would probably be replacement of the thermostat and thermal fuse. For this, you would have to contact a small appliance repair center in your area.

Cambridge Ontario Canada. I found and read the manual and under the heading "The kettle does not work or stops before boiling" it states " The kettle has been operated without water, triggering the safety system to prevent dry operation: leave kettle to cool and then fill with water. use the switch to turn it on: the kettle starts working again after about 15 minutes." This did not work on my first attempt and on the 2nd attempt I unplugged the base, then plugged it back in: replace kettle on base and turned switch on. After about 10 minutes kettle started working and my wife (the tea drinker) is happy again. Hope this helps others.
