I worked for two hours and kept getting terrible button holes.. the back side has loose thread while the front looks OK. I finally went back to my 30 year old Bernina to complete the button holes....
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

My Janome Memory Craft 5700 using the R buttonhole foot will only do a striaght line will not turn at top for bartack any suggestios?

Go to page 25 in your 5700 manual and read from the beginning about how to set the buttonhole foot up. Make sure you have followed all steps. There is a lever on the button hole foot that you pull down. If you have done everything correctly, then you may need to call a service tech at a sewing store and have it serviced. You can get a copy of the manual from Janome's website.
Hope you find the answer.

I'm trying to make a button hole and have tried at least 8 times. I've done it step by step according to the manual but the material seems to stay in one place, balls up until the thread breaks....

check the feed dogs & see if they are up--page 51
did you pull down the buttonhole lever---page 38
check the tension to make sure it correct-what the manual shows
check to make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever--page 16-- number 6
also clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose threads or lint
also check the needle--page 53

One step buttonhole help!!

On my machines, the one step button hole requires a pull down sensor that the button hole foot triggers when it has done one side. You put the button in the holder part of the button hole foot, set up with sensor and start to sew, being careful not to touch the trigger, then the machine will sew the required length, change stitch and then do other side. Maybe there's a demo on you tube ? I hope this helps

Janome JD1818 Automatic Buttonhole Not Working

If everything appears to be working correctly for the first side and stops and bunches up when it should reverse - Make sure you have pulled down the stopper arm (this is not clear in the manual) when the button hole foot contacts the stopper arm gently push the foot against the stopper arm and the direction will reverse and finish the button hole. **Stopper arm pulls down from above - Check the pictures in you manual carefully.**
