Question about Akai VS-J716EA VHS VCR

2 Answers

Akai VS-J716EA Power light flashes on and off at 1/2 to one second intervals.  I was concerned I would not be able to get cassette out, so held down eject button until it was ejected.  I am not confident the unit is now operable - does it have an internal  power supply problem?  Could the problem be a faulty capacitor? Please advise answer to Thanks!

Would you happen to know the 3 digit manufacture code for a Sharp VC-H992U Video Cassette Recorder? I need this info to input it into my TV so that the VCR will work with the TV. The TV provider is Dish...

Hello! Here is the link to our remote codes, if that fails follow these additional steps for the Power Scan this should resolve it as well.

  1. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate (about 3 seconds), then release.
  2. For AUX mode Power Scan ONLY: press 0 for a TV, press 1 for a VCR/DVD, press 2 for any other device, then press *.
  3. Press and release the Power button.
  4. Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
  5. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
  6. To verify the code works try several different functions for that equipment.

How to program Akai VCR VS J700 without a remote control ( Lost it) Is this possible? Set the clock and record in advance etc.

I have had a look at the Curry's Partmaster website. The have a lot of Akai Remotes which seem to be priced around £14.99. You could take a look. If you still have the manual it might tell you the model number of the remote. For instance RC81024. The remotes on this site all have numbers like the above all starting with RC. If you find the remote number it will help chase down the correct remote.

above is a generic training manual, this will give you an idea of whats required to service and repair a unit such as this. usually when this happens, it is a Power Supply that has taken, a power spike, surge etc. usually they are cheaply repairable, from you authorised service center, Akai, in your case, ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any work, that way at least you will get an idea as to weather repair or replace.

Tape cassette stuck after rewinding. Will not eject.

This happened to me with a Sanyo model but I believe this may be a universal solution.
Remove the top cover and the front panel.
The tape is held in a basket held down by 2 (only) screws toward the back end of the basket. Unscrew the two screws. Wiggle the basket out. The tape should come out with it.
Turn the basket upside down and the tape should slide out, because it is now not being obstructed by mechanical stuff that was holding it in while it was screwed onto the base.
Reassemble. Good luck!

Flashing auto display - won't power up

The infra red light in the middle of the mechanical deck, that powers the left and right photo sensors is not ok.It looks like a small lamp( you cant see it when it works-Infra red mind it).The video cassette has a large round opening in the bottom towords the front, and accomodates this lamp.please check it out.

Simple solution. In all probability the Erasure prevention Tab on the cassette is broken. Just paste a Scotch tape on the broken Tab and try again.
