Ice maker working no water through the door

I checked the valves and they both were working. I then opened the coupling behind the kick plate in the front and checked, there was water. The line is either frozen or plugged somewhere between the coupling and the dispencer.

Remove lower grill and disconnect the water line going through the freezer door hinge. Usually it is a push lock fitting, which requires you to push the ring on the end of the fitting toward the center of the fitting while pulling (not hard) on the plastic tube. Now place a pan under the separated plastic hose and try the water dispenser. If water comes out, your problem is a frozen water line in the freezer door. A warmer freezer temp may help, or you can order and install a WR49X101073 water tube heater. (the heater may take 24 hours to thaw the line, but I have used it successfully several times. Cost about $50) If no water comes out the separated tube when you try to dispense water, reconnect the tube at the hinge by pushing the plastic line back into the fitting. Now, at the back of the refrig., disconnect the water line going from the water valve to the fresh foods compartment. Try to dispense water. No water at valve outlet = bad valve. Water dispensed from valve now = frozen water filter or water line at back bottom of fresh foods compartment. (make sure you disconnect the right tube. If in doubt, disconnect them both, just get them back correctly so your icemaker continues to work) Send me additional comments if needed. Don't rate before you try all the steps.

To much water into ice maker leaks into freezer

this is most likely caused by a faulty water fill valve. Refrigerators that have ice/water in the door have two fill valves, one for the ice maker, one for the water dispenser. They are usually located on the back of the refrigerator about 6 inches or so off the floor. Some are located in the front behind the kick plate. They are not difficult to replace. You can order them online. Be sure to turn the water valve behind the refrigerator off before you disconnect anything. it is also a good idea to unplug the refrigerator. As long as you plug it back in within 30-40 minutes the food should be fine.

Tip

No Water Coming Out of The Water Dispensor on G E Refrigerator ?

If you are not getting water thru the door dispenser , first thing to check is if you are getting water to the water valve behind the refrigerator . This is the part in the back of the refrig , that the wall water line connects to .
If your ice maker is making normal size cubes , then you ARE getting water TO the water valve .
However , there are 2 coils on the water valve ( G E ) of which 1 is for the ice maker , and , the other , is for the water dispenser .

1 ) Remove the kick plate from the bottom front of the refrig . On some models , the kick plate " snaps " on , and other models , it is held on by a small screw on each side on the top portion of the kick plate .
Once the kick plate is removed , follow the plastic water line from the bottom of the freezer door , about 6 " , to a small coupling . This coupling , has a " ring " on both ends , one of which has to be pushed in as you pull the tubing from the coupler . Once this is accomplished , put a towel under the end of both ends of the tubing , to keep the floor dry .
2 ) Activate the water dispenser arm . If water comes out in a good stream , from the tubing which goes under the refrig , the water line inside the freezer door is frozen . You can either turn the freezer temp warmer for several days for the line to un-thaw or use compressed air ( I have heard using computer cleaner air bottles with the small tube works ) to the water line going up form the bottom of the freezer door to blow out the frozen ice .
Once the ice thaws , G E has a dispenser heater , part # WR49X10173 which comes with installation instructions , to keep this from happening again . If NO water comes out of either hose , then either the water tank inside the bottom of the refrig is frozen ( which would require several days of warmer temperature settings ) OR the refrig could have a bad coil on the water valve , which would require replacing the complete water valve .
I have only come across maybe 1 tank which was frozen , and the rest have been either the line in the door was frozen OR the water valve needed replaced .

Please note....if using compressed air in the door water line , DO NOT USE EXTREME HIGH PRESSURE , as this could burst the line in the door , causing the complete door to have to be replaced . Just the water line inside the door , is not replaceable .

Our LG fridge had an issue where the water supply was cut off, so the ice cube maker stopped working as well as the water dispenser in the front. The water valve was replaced, and the ice maker started...

it could be a frozen water tank inside freezer door. if so, door will need to be replaced; as, there was maybe a spot where the foam inside door wasn't sprayed properly. disconnect water line fitting under door behind kick plate; close door and try dispenser. this will verify if it's the door or not.

Ice maker does not work properly

First check to see if you still have the tech sheet, witch is located in the bottom grill or kick plate of the machine. This is located at the front bottom of the machine and should have 2 pices of papper in the kick plate after you remove it. Open both of the refrigerator doors and remove the kickplate. If they are still their, The direction for the ice maker and emiter board are their.

This Link should give you a download for the diagnostic sheet that will help you. start at page 5-1

My Whirlpool side-by-side fridge is only making about 4 ice cubes every 12 hours. Any ideas on what maybe wrong?

I would suggest replaceing the water valve , behind the refrig , where the wall water line connects to , on the refrig , AND remove the front kick plate , and clean the coils on the bottom , of dust , lint pet hair , etc . If your ice maker cycles , at least 8 cubes at a time , should dump . If only 4 , then not enough water is going into the ice maker .

GE Model GSH22KGRBWW has two problems. 1st

Here recently I have run into 2 of these units that do this and have found that the dispenser line is frozen in the freezer door. The way to test this is to remove the kick plate under the doors (It is easiest to open both doors to do this) Disconnect the union in the water line leading to the door by pushing in on the waterline and pulling in on the end of the fitting. When the line is apart, close the doors and push in on the paddle as to fill a cup with water. If you get water out of the line under the door then your line in your door is frozen and you will either need to replace your door or let the unit thaw for 24 hours with the doors open. Cheaper to thaw. If no water comes out under the door when paddle is pressed then you will need to replace the water valve as long as you have 120 volts at the valve when actuated.
I have had some of these same units making noises like this. One I found was leaking water down from the water inlet tube and in behind the ice maker and behind another panel that shoots up to the ice maker and building up behind that panel and causing a whistling sound. Removing the ice build up solved this one problem but couldn't find solution for the problem for the other. Dismissed it to change in the weather and expanding and contracting of the liner of the unit. Hope this helps.

Whirlpool gold ice maker problem

  • The refrigerator has a duel water valve, one for the ice-maker and one for the water dispenser (if equipped). The valve that the ice-maker relies on may be bad, or it could be the ice-maker itself.
  • Another thing that could cause it would be the temperatures in the freezer. The ice-maker will not call for water until it reaches under 15 degrees.
  • In addition, check the water tube behind the ice-maker to make sure it is not frozen, blocking more water from entering.
  • note: The water does not go to the ice-maker or thru the filter unless the ice-maker turns on the water valve.

ICE MAKER NOT WORKING

Yes, the ice maker controls the water valve. First check that there is water in the ice maker trays. If there is your valve is not the problem. If not, loosen the fitting on the water line that leads to the water solenoid valve. If you do not find water, check your manual valve that taps into the main water line. If you do have water, it may be that the water inlet above and behind your ice maker is frozen. You can thaw it out with a hair dryer and see if that is the problem. If this model dispenses water through the door, you can find the water solenoid valve behind the unit near the floor and reverse the two plugs on the solenoids. Place a paper towel in the water inlet tube that channels the water into your ice maker. Close the coor and press the water dispenser for 3 seconds. Open the door and see if the paper towel is wet. If it is, the water solenoid is fine. You can also remove the front of the ice maker and put an insulated jumper wire between the T and H test points to see if the unit ice maker will go through its cycle.
