Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hello, We bought a Perry Home in Georgetown TX last March and it is still under its two year warranty. Our air conditioner stopped cooling today. It has been working well for over 1 year. We came home from work and the temperature is 86F inside and climbing. My wife left the house at noon and the temp was 76F (where we keep the thermostat in the summer). The Air conditioner outside unit's fan is operating and no noise. The inside blower is running normal - no problem. The model number on the outside unit is GSC140601AD. It is 14SEER unit. We have not did anything (construction, etc...) near the outside or inside units. We have notified Perry and when I saw your website I thought I'd try contacting you. The unit is off.. also we tried to cycle power on/off.. Thanks, Tom

You have a 10 year warranty on your AC. Call a Goodman rep and have it serviced. It will probably be a bad compressor capacitor. Bad wire or no refrigerant.

Sounds like the system is either over charged with freon or under sized. Call the same people back out ask for a supervisor to come out and check out the system any other company will charge you.

Drain is probably jsut stopped up. I assume it worked at some point. Grab your shop vac and go outside where the condensate is supposed to drain from the unit to the outside. Turn on the shop vac and vacuum out the blockage. You should be good to go.

Blower no cool

Chances are the tech said it was a "capacitor".
That is one of the few (and minor) parts that routinely go bad and would be no suprise with a 17 month old unit. Nearby lightening strikes or power surges can cause them to fail. That is true with all brands.

(the condensor is the entire outdoor unit)

Goodman systems typically come with a 1 year all parts warranty, and a 10 year compressor warranty.

Since your unit is 17 years old the capacitor is not under warranty. (unless you purchased an extended warranty plan of some kind.)

$90 is reasonable compared to the typical going rate for a capacitor replacement and service call.

My air conditioner will kick on but will stay on and not

The thermostat is not functional, therefore its not cutting off the compressor once the room air gets cooled to the temp setting of the thermostat, also the refrigerant gas may have leaked out some but not the entire refrigerant gas(freon, CF4, etc.), keeping the compressor running contentiously to come down to the set temp..............sodeep

Just clicking is all your getting from ceiling assembly? No other modes work such as fan, or furnace? If that's the case, check your circuit breakers to make sure it didn't trip.

No it is not normal. You might have a bad capicator to the motor.
Is your unit still under Warranty? If so. Call the service center.

SHARP AIRCON BRAND NEW - NO COOL AIR

The problems are to numerous to guess. a wire off, a bad control.
I would suggest you return the unit to where you bought it, and get a replacement or in some cases there is a warranty phone number on the paper work you can call. According to the manufacturer they may send a service tech. out to make any repairs. If it's under warranty let the manufacturer honer there warranty. you'll be glad you did.

Who should I contact--Raleigh, NC

huummm... i'd pull out the invoices to equipment there's always a 5 year warranty on compressor. sometimes contractors says it's out of warranty to sell you a new unit, (they usually hate repairing.) If your invoice says it's less than 5 years old well technically your under warranty. If contractor doesn't want to honor warranty you should contact any local consumer affairs office and file a claim, sometimes if the equipment is less than 5 and more than 2 you might have to pay a small fee to get the replacement compressor. And you might have to pay some fees, at least installation of it. and the only time it needs refrigerant if's there's a leak. I'd on on that line for now hope to be of assistance today.
