Question about Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DOIS USM Lens
Sadly, you don't. The camera was released about two and a half years old and unless you have an extended warranty then it's totally uneconomic to repair.
This was a budget model to start with as they were priced just over £100 and although discontinued, you can now get them as new old stock for about £90. Just a strip down and diagnosis would cost more than that.
Based on other digital cameras I've been asked to repair, these kind of faults are often due to shock or static damage, and sometimes due to deterioration of internal flexible printed circuit boards. Whilst under warranty, for cameras which retail at up to around £250 the manufacturer generally makes a quick determination as to whether the problem is a really simple one and if it's anything more complex just scraps yours and sends another out which may be new or "refurbished".
