My Craftsman model 427.25000 riding mower will not crank over. I did all the prestart maintainence needed from sitting the winter. Drained & changed gas, new plug & air filter, & got new battery. But, when I turn key to on position, I get a faint click sound down by back of motor & when turned further to start position there is nothing at all? I was advised to jump ignition solienoid with a screwdriver by touching the top two posts at same time. When doing that & key turned to start the motor cranks over but didn't start. Thought meant bad solenoid so got new one but still have same problem of getting one click and that's it? Sound like three way key switch may be bad? I'm getting a mutimeter to test everything to be sure but any thoughts?
1.try jumping the battery with your car battery. I have had same issue in the past with a brand new battery.
2. Try spraying starter fluid into the carb while cranking. If it starts or at least tries to start (assuming cranking is fixed), you have a fuel problem. Again, when I first tried to fire my Used mower, had to use starter fluid to get it to start the first time, but never since.

Does the motor even turn over. Have you checked the carb. for gunk or gas trash.
if anti back fire selonoid is disconnected how
are you getting fuel? if so ck selonoid again make sure it is open. should run
SOURCE: nothing happens when you turn on the lawn mower
Check your seat, drive safety switches. Can you turn the engine with jumper cables attached to the starter? It won't start, but should turn over, one of your safety switches is not working.
