Broken mixer switch

The switch only works in high. I can't figure out how to get the case open to either clean or replace the switch.
Any idea?

To disassemble: Pull the rear cover off by prying on the bottom edge. It snaps in and hinges at the top. Remove the small oval cover on the front by prying, then remove the phillips screw. Remove the protective slider off the bottom. The 2 case halves then need to be separated by prying.

My daughter dropped it (again) and speeds 2 and 3 failed to work so I disassembled it and found a broken center terminal on the power transistor. I saw a fine crack so I soldered it. I also added much needed strain relief to the heat sink. It works fine now. This is a poor design. The power device has a heat sink attached and there is no strain relief so the transistor can move back and forth at least 3/8". For a tool that sees a lot of vibration and shock, this heat sink should be tie strapped or have hot melt glue to prevent movement. Gary

Awesome tip! I had very same speed control issue, although it was never even dropped. When I disassembled, I wondered why transistor with heat sink was so weak on its feet, but did not see break in the middle terminal, and started to search for replacement parts. Found this page, and immediately knew it must be same problem. Dobbed some solder on it and works fine. Seems to be a weak point in an otherwise very nicely designed mixer unit.

Same here. Only works in high or pulse...

My Braun M880 mixer switch went out today. Since it was already broken, I thought, what do I have to lose, and went about trying to figure out how to take it apart. Success! Make sure its unplugged first. There's a little plastic tablike thing in the front--squeeze the ends toward the center and it will pop out, or help it a little with, say, a blunt table knife. Then take out the phillips screw that you can now see. Then gently pry off the base (the part that sits flat on the table) Don't use too much force and you won't break anything. Then gently pry off the plastic slider on the bottom. Then work the seam where the two halves come together with your fingers, pressing down here and there until the two halves come apart. Now you can see the insides. What needs replacing is the electronic component. I found this part at for 9.99 plus 6.99 shipping. Better 16.98 than $50 for a new one. The part is Braun 4642-634 PC Board Complete. It is a special order and will take 2-6 wks to arrive. I think replacing this will be rather easy. Study the online picture so you will know how much you are replacing with the new part. There are two metal tabs that fit down into the top of the motor and they pulled straight out (up) with pliers. The white electric cord has two clips that fit onto this board-they pulled off easily. You will see that the speed switch also fits onto the side of the board. This is as far as I can advise because I just ordered the part today. Good luck.

When mixing egg whites kitchenaid k45 works great but try to cream butter and beater quits turning.

It will be a broken or missing pin through a gear or the planetary or something wrong with the fuse gear. It should be easy enough to find but you will need to split the gearbox cases to check.

We have a Cuisinart Hand Mixer Model # HM70 and the Beaters do not stay in the mixer holes. Can this be fixed in any way? Jack

Cuisinart hand mixers are not repairable. You can buy replacement accessories like beaters, but you can't buy any internal replacement parts.

I have a Cuisinart HM-70 and I stripped the plastic gears inside by trying to mix a really thick dough. It was easy to open and get to the plastic gears. When I called Cuisinart to try to get replacement gears, they said that they don't sell replacement parts and their hand mixers are not repairable. I looked all over the internet and no one sells internal parts.

Unless your mixer is still under warranty, I believe that you're out of luck and your mixer is headed to the electronics recycle pile.

Most handmixers today are sold with plastic gears - including high end brands like Viking. For me the lesson learned is to buy low end hand mixers (don't buy a top of the line 9 speed mixer) and treat them like they're disposable when they break.

I have a kitchenaid K45SS 250 watts. The speed control is only working on high (10). Is there a easy way to fix this. please Help.

You will have to open the appliance.
Most likly cause is food residue in the switch or oxidation/corrosion tot he switchs contacts. In any case remove the switch and test it with a continuity tester if switch positons are not making contact spray it with an electronic contact cleaning solvent and operate the switch repeatedly, repeat a few times then leave the switch somewere warm for the solvent to evaporate (6 hours+) and then retest your switch. Let me know if you need anymore help :)

The latch/switch on the speed control board is stuck

You need to take the back cover off and then split the gear cases to find the mechanical reason why the lever is stuck. Take the motor off the pedestal, remove the planetary and undo the 9 screws that hold the bottom gearcase to the top housing. You will need to unplug the white and the black wires from one side of the speed control plate.

Motor won't start

I am having the same problem. I tested the board with a voltmeter and insured that electricity was being delivered to the motor when the switch was on. That works on mine. So...I tried to find this thermal switch....most people say it is on the left side of the motor. I may be there, but my motor has a thick plastic case there and I can't figure out how to remove it.

6qt Pro Kitchenaid Mixer not mixing

Hi. If you goto the Kitchenaid website you can do a search for the parts catalog for your model of mixer. Download the catalog. It will assist you in disassembling your mixer.

Remove the silver band around the top of the mixer. Remove the top cover and look at the top front of the machine and locate the transmission housing. If it's plastic, carefully inspect this housing for cracks. If you find cracks in this housing, IT is the source of your troubles. This cheap piece of plastic has no business being installed in a high-priced mixer. Your machine probably failed when you were mixing heavy bread dough or cookie dough. When this cover cracks, it can strip the worm gear shaft, its bearings and the bearing seats. It happened to me, and many thousands of other users I expect. Insist on a metal trans. housing for your replacement.

You may be able to have Kitchenaid pay for these parts even out of warranty, just don't tell them that you opened it up. Take it to an authorized repair place and let them assess the damage. Use their estimate to confront Kitchenaid. Be persistent in your complaint, keep asking for a manager to get involved in your case. They paid for my replacement parts even though I was 5 months out of warranty. The higher up you go in the management dept., the more likely you are to have them pay for your parts.

Once repaired, sell it ASAP!

If this solution has assisted you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

Blakeslee (Kenwood) A717 mixer speed control

I had the same problem. Had to strip the machine down to get to the motor. On the top is a moving plate with various capacitors etc mounted. On the front side there was a Capacitor (At least I think it was) with the wire broken.
I resoldered it and the machine now works fine.

I hope this helps

The switch is broken

Mine did the same thing. I found the ball bearing inside the switch had fallen off. Put it back on and it works like new!

Pull the mixer case apart. Push in on the seam in the front and back and it will pop open after you remove the 1 screw. Pull the switch apart. There is a spring inside the top part of the switch and a small (1/8") ball bearing should be on top of the spring. Chances are, it has fallen off. Find it and stick it back on the spring while holding the top part of the switch upside down. Put the mixer back together.
