Ribbons doesn't compute, what model make ?

Check phone line with normal phone

Are you using ASDL or Duet?

Do you have dedicated fax line or are you just using the one for phone/fax

If it's a laser copy type (not good with names) the lasers might be covered with dust and dirt, or you might need to replace the copying arm thing.. that's if you have a similar one to mine

I need to restore our fax (Brother 4100e )back to the original settings to remove all the phone/fax numbers. Can you help?

press the "menu/set", and then "*2864". you have to press these within 2 seconds. machine should beep and say "maintenance" when you've entered correctly. then press "01". panel should come up and say "parameter init". when that message clears, press "99". that should take you back to normal display.

good luck,

Trying to reset fax to new number keeps telling me press star 9 star to rx whtas rx please

If say you are in a house that has 4 phones in different rooms and you answer a incoming call but its a fax. You can press 9* from your phone and the 5100 will detect it and start to receive (RX) then you can hang up and go to the fax and you should have the received fax. However in practice it hardly ever works. Some of the wiring in houses and offices is just not perfect for this operation to work. try it an see. Have fun. lol

Alarm says replace drum soon. Can the message be

The "replace drum soon" indicater is a warning for you to have a new replacement drum "on-hand". Soon the display will change to "REPLACE DRUM" AT WHICH TIME THE UNIT WILL STOP PRINTING.
When the new drum cartridge is then installed...the REPLACE DRUM indicator will be reset. DO NOT replace the drum before the machine says to.

Well first take and old phone and plug it into the wall outlet, do you get a good dail tone with no noise? secondly, have AT&T check your line, their check will only be up to your house, you have to check the phone lines in your house/company. Move the fax machine to a new phone line. Is this a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) having to dial a 9 before the number the the nine gets you into the exchange system.

Panafax uf-895 faxes, won't print. Put a new toner in, gives message 021

Error 021 relates to the Fuser unit (the bit that gets hot inside).
It is not related to the toner, which is a bit strange, but try switch off/on first.

Failing that you may need to clear the error in service mode. To access this:

Press "Function", "7", "Monitor" four times, then "*".

The machine should be saying "Service Mode"

Then press "7"

The machine should say "LBP Parameter Set"

(not 100% about the next bit but it should be reasonably straightforward to follow the display on the machine)

You are looking for "LBP Fuser Reset"..I think it is this:

Press "2" for "LBP Fuser Reset"

Press "Start"

The machine may reboot at this point.

If this is done correctly and the error still remains, the Fuser Unit will need replacing.

Sorry to be a bit vague on the instructions..not worked on these for a few years :)

New cartiage/not reconized

It says there is no cartridge, or does it say that the cartridge is empty?

First, you must realize there are two cartridges. A drum and a toner. If you bought a new toner, pulled out the drum and put the new toner in, you have pulled a DOH! You can't just put the toner in. You have to take your old drum cartridge, remove the toner portion and install the new toner into your old drum and then install the entire assembly back into the machine. I hope you didn't throw your drum out thinking it was all one cartridge (I've seen it happen). This is where reading the owner's manual helps.

If not, then one of the contacts must have been damaged. Remove the cartridge and look inside the machine. See if you can find any of the metal contacts on the side of the inner chamber that is bent or damaged and try to bend it back.

Check the drum and make sure none of the contacts are damaged.

If the unit is still saying Toner Empty, try this. On the left side of the toner there will be a while lever in a semi-circular notch.

Unplug the unit, use a small screwdriver or a key to push that white lever back to the front of the notch. Put the drum and toner back into the machine and plug the power back in.
