Question about Black & Decker Black and Decker & Grass Hog Electric Trimmer

Open Question

My black & decker no bump trimmer no longer feeds automatically

Don't know if I don't have enough string on the spool or if there's a problem with the automatic feeding mechanism. Was working fine when the spool was fully loaded but now that I'm down to only a few yards of string it won't feed. Can not enough string cause this problem?

SOURCE: B & D auto feed string trimmer won't advance string

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.

The nylon thread has worn down. How do I get more of it to come off the spool which is still full?

Hi cmlontg152...

You will have the grass hog running and then bump the turning head on the ground and it will automatically feed out the line, the more you bump it on the ground the longer the line will be...don't make it too long at a time...only what you need.

How do you advance the string

These little electric machines have an automatic line feeding system. Do not bump the trimmer head on the ground attempting to make line advance. If the line advance is not functioning like it should, then the string head should be removed and the spool inspected for snags and tangles.

I properly replaced the line spool but it won't feed automatically.

After you replaced your string in the trimmer and fed it through the hole in the plastic casing in which the spool fits into, did you pull the string until you hear a click? The click locks the string in, then you can bump and feed as usual. Otherwise it won't feed normally.

String on weed wacker does not automatically advance.

the notice on the trimmer says it has an AFS Automatic Feed Spool, "NO BUMPING REQUIRED". I see that underneath the spool, there's a small plastic centrifugal weightwith a peg on it. . It kinda looks like it might advance the line each time the electric motor starts and stops. If there are loose clippings in there, or if the weight is stuck, it probably would cause the problem.

String won't advance automatically. Thank you so much for any assistance! It's a Black & Decker ST 7000 edger/trimmer.

There is a rachet mechanism at the bottom of the spool. make sure the spool is seated fully. Also make sure the string isn't wound too tight or it will stick and not advance.

Auto feed spool doesn't work

You may need to purchase a new spool housing, which may not be too hard to do, if you have one of the name brand trimmers. This replaces the whole mechanism that holds the line, the retaining ring, etc.

I am trying to spool trimming line into my black and decker GH1000. It is supposed to feed automatically. It is not. I'm afraid I fed the line onto the spool incorrectly. Need help

Yes, it does feed automatically.
Please make sure the trimming line spooled in your spool regularly.

If above does not work, please go to service center to change a lever inside spool housing.
