the cooling fan itself maybe your problem, high resistance due to the motor being internally shorted but not totally gone, sounds like it my let you down shortly, I'd replace the cooling fan motor and burnt connector.
Check to see if the sensor in the freezer compartment is encased in ice. If so, do a complete defrost and restart the unit. Another possibility is a bad thermostat and/or sensor.
There is a stile heater around the door opening and sounds like it shorted out. This would be the smell you noticed. The plastic door trim should have felt exceptionally warm to the touch
This is a sign of a short and should be looked at immediately. A smell like that is a sign of something burning. I could be the start relay and start capacitor with overload. But I would not sleep with the possibility of a fire. I will look over your model and see if I can find what this could be, Sea Breeze
is it new? how old is it? burnt plastic is the smell a bad motor produces. dont worry, i dont think it will cause a fire, but a fan motor on its way out will stink!
if its relatively new, return it. if not, get a new one!
classical sign of a bad motor. the motor has a thermal switch on it telling the unit to shut off when it gets hot. after it cools down, the switch will tell the motor to turn back on again. good luck, i'm pretty sure that's your problem. contact me for further help if needed. thanks :)
