Re: Acer travelmate 230 won't boot

This sounds like it may be a Power controller problem, (circuit that controls battery charging etc...) To fix this the mainboard usually needs to be replaced, which will mean that you will have to send it to Acer to be "serviced".

Mysteriously stopped booting up

I hate when people just guess what is wrong at sites like this, but I'm "guessing" your power supply needs to be replaced. I've seen similar symptoms before. They're cheap and easy to replace. I'm 80% sure that will fix your problem. Just make sure it has the correct standard or SATA power connectors for your hard drive(s) and CD drive.

Abit AW8-Max board shows 0.0. on the digital readout on the bottom of the board, but nothing else responds when the power swithch is engaged. The fan on the power unit won't even work.d

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the computer is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge. If it's a laptop, Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugsinto the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside thejack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have totake the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto themotherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

The desktop will not boot. When powered on, the fans start, and the optical drive cycles repeatedly. Nothing on display - light on display stays yellow. I have tried unplugging rhe CD drive. No dice. I...

Bios is checking to see if the components are recognised.. usually keyboard is "seen" first. I have to concurr with you that given the things you mention, the mobo is indeed toast, especially as there are no beeps on boot up that would indicate a specific error

Toshiba laptop won't bootup with or without hard drive or with or without memory sticks

hi wvrd

you say it wont boot up, but do you actual mean, it wont start up?
are there any lights on when plugged in, are the fans running ect..or does it just appear dead...(no lights or sounds)

there is a difference if its not booting
or it wont power on

if it is starting up, but not booting to windows, post back and we can go from there.

i see some are assuming its booting up but not to windows, but till we know for sure if its not booting or its not powering up, we wont be able to advise you further till you clarify its state!

this could be something as simple as the power adapter if its not powering on.

A7N8X-E Deluxe Nforce2 will not POST

I had the same issue a while back. You need to reinstall windows on the new PC. Your motherboard is expecting to see a certain hard drive that has the windows boot sector on it. If it doesn't see that exact hard drive the computer will never boot... so quick fix, just reinstall windows and everything should work fine.

No Post, black display....power light on and fan works, but that is it.

unfortuntately, theres no such thing as a 29cent fuse in a laptop (sorry). its most likely a short in the board caused by the pulling out of the battery or a bad solder job on the jack (no offense)

Compaq Presario 4400us

Either the new power supply you purchased is not functioning correctly. But, assuming it is now that you are getting some form of power to your PC, it is very likely the motherboard. Whatever fried your old power supply (or it could have just been the power supply itself) most likely fried your motherboard in the process. Probably not the CPU since the MB can't even post.
