You have almost left no stone unturned. It is either a bad base station or a bad cord between the base and the jack. Try a new cord.

Dsl hooked up first then phone. worked fine for a while now nothing on phone but internt works. why

It could be one of several issues. I'd first check and replace the DSL filter. These can get damaged during a thunderstorm, even if there is no direct lightning strike. (Some filters may be in the service box and should be replaced by the telephone company repair crew.) Next check your phone line at several jacks, including the service box connection, if you can. I like to use an old wired phone to check for dial tone; an old rotary phone is my preferred tool since it rarely fails. Not all phone services have an RJ-11 connection in the service box. In that case, you need to contact the phone company to test the service.

If you have a dial tone at the service box and not at other jacks, you'll need to check for damaged wires in your walls and jacks. The jacks are fairly easy to check. They either have screw terminals or keystones. For the screw terminals, you strip a new section of the broken conductor wire and place it under the appropriate screw. For keystones, you do not strip the wire; just push in the wire with a punch down tool. The tools are available at most hardware stores in the electrical section. See http://cablesupply.com/content/47-telephone-connections-and-rj11 for the wire color to terminal location. Your phone company will correct inside wiring issues for a fee.

If you do not have a dial tone at the service connection, your telephone provider will fix the problem for free. There is probably a damaged wire outside your home.

If your spare phone gets a dial tone, then the original phone has a problem. If it is a cordless phone, check that the base unit has power. Next check that the handset batteries are good. Replace the unit or have it serviced if the transmitters or receivers can't communicate.

I hope this helps.

My Uniden TRU8885 will no longer give a dial tone or ring when called (I tried using my cell phone). All associated handsets are similarly afflicted. Cleaning peope were here today and must have pressed...

The TRU8885 has a Do Not Disturb feature which will disable the ring on the base and all handsets. To toggle this off, press and hold the DND button on the base. (The key is on the lower left of the keypad, next to the * key). The answering system will turn on when the DND feature is enabled, if it wasn't previously on.

However, this shouldn't disable the dial tone when you call out. I suggest that you check that the base has power. After that, you have to look for a wiring problem. The problem could be the phone, the RJ-11 cable between the base and the wall jack, a wire that is damaged in the wall, or an outside line problem.

First try a new RJ-11 cable; make sure not to use a wired handset cord. After that, I like to use an old corded phone that requires no power adapter to test the line. If the test phone gets a dial tone, then the TRU8885 base has a problem. If the test phone doesn't hear a dial tone, try plugging it into another jack on the phone line if possible. If there's no dial tone (or no other jack), find the incoming service box. If there is an RJ-11 plug in the box, check for a dial tone there.

If you have no dial tone at the service box or can't test the line at the box, contact your telephone company. Most companies will check the line and fix outside problems for free. If the problem is at the first jack, remove the cover plate and look for a loose wire. There are two styles of RJ-11 jacks. The screw terminal type require you to strip the wire and secure it under the correct screw. For the keystone jack type, you do not strip the wire. You use a punch-down tool (available at many hardware stores in the electrical section) to push the wire back into the correct section of the keystone. The little pins will puncture the insulation when the wire is properly inserted to make the connection. See http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx for the connection wiring connections. If you have an DSL filter inside your home, replace it if it is faulty. For any other inside wiring problem, you may want to let a professional find the wiring break in the walls. Your phone company will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

(I have had dial tone issues from several different causes. A single jack's wire was left disconnected after a service upgrade. Several outages were from damaged outside wiring either from mice chewing or a contractor digging through the wire. With a DSL line, the lightning strike damaged the filter and blocked all of the signals. Recently, a fiber-optic service card failed resulting in intermittent dial tone failures. Except for the first issue which I could fix myself, the local phone company or appropriate contractors fixed the issue for free. However, I don't live in an area where the phone company is trying to stop serving some wired phone customers.)

How can i fix the troubleshooting and routine maintenance problem on my brother mfc-7340, i cant receive fax or send.

Plug a phone into the jack and see ifyou have dial tone. if you do then check to see if yo have dial tone when you select hook on the printer. If you do have dial tone then make sure you are pluged in the back in phone not ext. if that is not it then make sure you unit is on fax only.

Does leaving handset in charger shorten battery life

I used to repair pagers for Motorola and back then the biggest problem we had was from bad batteries. Firemen would go on vacation and leave there pagers in the chargers while gone. They would return in a week or two and find that there pagers would not work. The chargers heat the battery while charging and this continued heating after charging would ruin the batteries. New chargers aren't as bad but it is best to cycle your battery. Run it until it needs charging, charge until charged then use until it again needs to be charged. Refrain from unnecessary charging. If you properly cycle a battery it can last for 2 or 3 years before replacing

No dial tone

Try connecting a regular phone to that jack and see if the phone works. If not, try a different cable. If the phone doesn't work, then the jack is either dead or miss wired.

Programing pager tone alerts

The scanner itself does not directly support decoding of pager tones, but if you know someone who can manage their way around a bit of soldering and hacking, they might be able to rig something up with an old pager which could be triggered from the audio output jack from the scanner.

CORDLESS PHONE - NO DIAL TONE

Plug out the power from the main charger and then plug in again. It needs to reset after they have gone dead. Immediately you can lift one of them off the charger and you will hear your dial tone.
