Question about Heating & Cooling

The compressor sounds like it is running, but the pressures on both the high and low sides don't change ie. high go and low go down. Both stay at approx 150 to 170 psig

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi eclipse my ac pressure low side is 10psi but compressor is still running. I thought below 20psi the pump shuts off. Am I wrong??

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang V6, the ac is blowing warm air. We checked the refrigerant and it is full. The ac compressor will kick on for a few seconds and then kick off. Why is the compressor not staying...


it's either low (in spite of your readings) or your a/c clutch is not working correctly or you have too big an air gap in the clutch.
First, just disconnect the 2 pin connector from the a/c pressure cycling swithc and jumper the 2 pins with a wire to force the clutch to stay engaged. See if it blows cold then, and stays engaged. You can run this way for about 15 minutes before you have to pull the plug.

My carrier unit #38TKB042300 / 3794E16886 Is not cooling. The Compressor is not running. I thought maybe the capacitor might be bad so I put a new one one. The compressor comes on and runs for 3-4...


Check the running pressures and if the low side drops to low it may be shutting down on low pressure switch.I just used this as a rule of thumb. If the outside air temp is around 90 degrees then the pressures should be in the range of 60-70 on the low side.And 250-300 on the high side. If you can get the compressor to stay on then I would clean The a-coil and condensor to get maximum effiency.Thank you.

You need to use a pressure manifold gauge:

Connect the red hose to the high pressure side located in front of the radiator, connect the blue hose to the low pressure side located in front of the fuse box, there is a thick metallic tube that has a tire-style cap, unscrew that and attach it, purhcase R-12 refrigerant can of at least 1kg, then attach an adapter to the can and connect the yellow hose to this part, open up the flow valve and turn the can upside down while your car is running and the A/C is on.
Check for pressure, the high side should have a high pressure and low side should be as low as possible while the compressor clicks on. Google for the exact pressure numbers as I don't remember.
Just make sure that the AC compressor located at the bottom of the belts is engaged, this is engaged by the correct pressure setting automatically

Ge monogram zisw42emd, evap fan not coming on, Units been down a week, compressor seized,installed start kit. Compressor running 2.5 amps pressures 25/105 Replaced coil thermostats, evap fan not running.


that back pressures sound high to me and the hi side sound low may have a bad compressor not pumping right should run around 0 to 5 low 125 to 150 hi hope that helps

My air condition is not blowing cold air


best diagnostic method is dual head gauges. balanced pressure between low and high side in the off position is aroung 90 lbs. running low pressure is 20-40 lbs and high pressure 160-200, is the compressior not coming on? does it stay on, or click on and off. either might mean the freon level is low. try unplugging the low pressure switch on the low side supply line and shorting the pigtail wires together with a paper clip. does the compressor stay on now? if so and the air is warm or cool, freon is low. if the air is cold that switch is bad. if compressor still won't come on the list of possibilities grows longer: compressor, comp fan clutch, AC relay, restriction at several places... repair shop time...

Hello RR Hard start can't hurt BUT dosen't sound like the problem.Do you have a scroll compressor?They don't need a kit.Does it start every time?It could be short cycling on LOW PRESSURE SWITCH.If the unit is (pumping down) during the run time you have a restriction in the system.Make sure the service valves are open ,do you have a filter dryer colgging up or a bad TXV valve also could cause short run times.20-30 PSI the switch cuts out.

AC comes on, then shuts down before car is cooled. Compressor activates and blows cool air for about 15 seconds then shuts down.


Low on R134a, you need to have the system recharged. Try to stay away from the do it your self kit that most Auto Parts store carry.
Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI

Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI

Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI

Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.

AC not cooling for 97 Passat TDI


A/c should be charged on the low side while engine is running. Make sure high side valve is turned off. Low side reading should be around 32-35 psi at idle high side should not go above 250. I hope this helps,good luck

1989 year would indicate the system uses the Old CFC R12 refrigerant. 70 PSI equals about 70°F . This is not enough pressure difference to give you any cooling. Sounds like your compressor has bad valves. Replace compressor.
