I am trying to scan on my HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One. I get the following error message - The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "Copy.msi" in the box below. I tried installing the missing file from the HP Web site since I don't have the CD, but it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas?
I am just an average personal computer user learning as I go along, so please no high tech explanations. Thanks.
You will have to download the whole program from HP.
Here is the website -
For XP: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-42045-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=1153481
or for Vista: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-47461-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=1153481
These are 300 mb and once you have them save them to desktop, or to the hardrive in a temp file. Run it and it will re-install the program.
What probably happened is you loaded a program which overwrote something in one of the files, or you removed a program that took something important with it. Believe me it happens all the time, so don't feel bad.
You are one of the lucky people who made it through that 2007 debacle. I can't tell you how many computers I had to repair from that same mess. Luckily, since your computer is functioning, you should be able to install the printers program, and it will repair all those keys for you, and might actually help your system by repairing some of the dll's that were damaged in the uninstall. If you need my e-mail it is [email protected]
I would greatly appreciate if you would give me a rating also. Thanks and GOOD LUCK!!
You must be using Vista. There is a known compatability issue in Vista and HP refuses to fix it because Vista is such garbage. Be glad when the new one come out this fall. I know you are just a novice but I will try to step you through one of 2 work-arounds. This is the easier one. Here goes:
Right click on the Start Icon in the bottom left hand corner of your computer
Click on Explore
Find and click on Program files
Find and click on HP folder or Hewlett Packard Folder
Find and Click on Digital Imaging Folder
Double Click on BIN folder
Find the following file: hpqscnvw
Double click on that file (hpqscnvw)
Your HP scanning feature should open
If it does and it scans properly then right click on the hpqscnvw file and click copy then go to an open place on your desktop and right click then click paste shortcut.
Let me know if this works for you. If it doesn't there are a couple of other work-arounds.

Thank you for your post and you're absolutely correct. During my learning process, I somewhat successfully uninstalled Microsoft 2007 folowing the website's instructions and ended up in the registry. Who knew? I then installed 2003, but apparently lost some important files or registry keys. Should I still follow your advice or is it a simple entry of a lost key?
Thanks Jerome,
I believe that helped but now I've run into another problem. When I try to scan I get the following error message - HP CUE-Scanning Flow Component has stopped working. Any fix for this issue?
Woo Hoo! You just saved me a 3 hour conversation with HP with a no solution result. Thank you so much.
