Re: log and trip function not registering

It is unlikely the problem is in the A65 screen.....most likely it is an issue with the paddlewheel itself, its circuit in the depth/speed transducer, or least likely, in the DSM25 sounder module.

Both the log and the trip functiions are read from the paddle-wheel sensor of the connected DSM25 sounder module and transducer.

1. Make sure you have a DSM25 sounder module and transducer with a paddle wheel (the A65 is available without the DSM25 option.)

Double check the connections between the DSM25 and the A65, as well as the transducer connection to the A65. There is an indicator light on the DSM25 to confirm it is on.

2. Make sure the paddle wheel turns freely. They tend to get fouled easily with debris and growth.

3. Make sure the A65 is giving to a reading for SPEED when underway or when having a buddy spin the paddlewheel by hand. Do not confuse SPEED with SOG. SPEED is from the paddlewheel.....SOG (Speed over ground) comes from your GPS sensor and is not used by A65 for log or trip purposes.

If you get npo speed reading at all the paddle wheel may be defective or the depth/speed transducer may be defective. See your dealer about a replacement.

I can't register my new nuvi because i have an old gramin i need help

  • To register a second nuvi you need to log into your myGarmin account for the older satnav.
  • When you've logged in click on the "HOME" tab
  • Click on "REGISTER" on the top left side of the page
  • Click on "AUTOMOTIVE"
  • Click on "CONTINUE" and follow the prompts to register your new satnav.
If you've forgotten your log in details you can set up a new account but you must use a different email address. You can set up another email address at or or any number of sites.

I put my user name & password it then locates my Garmin device but then says this device is not registered to this account but i bought this as new 3years plus ago

I'm only guessing, but this may be worth a try.
Go to the Garmin website,, click on the tab "myGarmin".
Log in (which you would have done when you registered your new GPS when you bought it).
Then click on "View your registered products".

If your 660 is listed there, (its model number would appear in blue type, under the heading Product Name.....and the serial number would be listed to the right) the unit MUST be registered to you or you probably wouldn't even get this far on the website.

If your unit ISN'T listed there, you may see a drop-down window where you can select "Register Now".
(I say all this somewhat tentatively, because MY unit IS registered: it was initially registered by its previous owner who had to UNregister before I could go in an register it in MY name.)

Perhaps the store where you bought the unit registered it in YOUR name, but maybe they spelled it differently (like, Mike, instead of Michael). OR, maybe you never registered it when you made your purchase. If not, go ahead and do it now; it's easy!

Good luck.

Likely your DSM25 (that little box that connects the transducer to the display) will need to be rebuilt. The red LED is saying that there is an internal fault with the unit. You would need to send the unit in for repair through Raymarine (as there really is not anyone else who can do it), and they would have to replace the main circuit card in the box. I believe that they are charging either $150 or $175 to repair those now... but likely the only way you will get that one to work again.

Did you cancel the current trip and restart the GPS? Try one of your preset waypoints and see if you are getting data that way. It may just need a reset, unplug and allow it to discharge first and let's see if that does it.

Hello! Our Raymarine A65 will not start up. It starts a boot process but does not show "Raymarine A65" on the display and no chart is displayed as it usually does. Regards Odd

Probably a bad printed circuit board, just had to send mine in to have it repaired. When I hit the power button, I did hear a beep, but then nothing displayed. Mine was still under warrenty, so don't know the repair cost if yours is not.

A-65 screen has fine scratches/clouds

My Raymarine A65 was so bad in daylight I could not read the screen. Used Never Dull polish from ACE hardware, similar to Brasso, and it took every scratch and cloudy mark off the screen. The can documentation includes glass as one of the items it?s safe to use on. Looks new again, Good Luck, Paul

No depth reading while on plane.

Depending on your transducer type, you may have a liquid filled type that simply needs refilling. If this is the case check for leaks and get it redone. If not it could be transducer placement or cavitation under the hull.

Was the engine running when it shut off? How was the voltage at the time it failed? The A65 will shut down if the voltage drops below 11.2 volts.

Another common cause would be corrosion on the plug where it plugs into the back of the display, or the terminal connectors that attach it to the boat's power supply.

It could also be a bad crimp on the terminal connectors. Make sure connectors are the right size for the wire and that they are marine grade, such as Ancor brand connectors. I also recommend heat shrink style connectors,

I have not heard of any software issues for that model so I am betting it's a wiring issue. However, there is an update available from Raymarine. There were changes made to the WAAS satellites and the update helps it recognize the new satellites. You can download it for free from Raymarine. Copy it onto a blank CF card and plug it into the card slot on your GPS. When you turn the unit on it will prompt you on how to proceed with the update. It will fix any known software gliches at the same time.

I hope this answer helps. Please reply if you have any questions about my response.

Raymarine A65

When the engine starts, there is a voltage drop as the starters crank, followed by a power surge as the alternators kick in and the voltage comes back up.

Ferrites are only there to prevent RF (Radio Wave) interference from other onboard devices.

You should either:
-add an isolated battery to the boat to service only your electronics. That way it is unaffected by the starters.

-There are several devices on the market like Newmar Power's "Start-Gurad" that automatically switch electronics to backup power during engine start. They work great and the electronics don't skip a beat.
