It could be the thermostat is loose on the subbase or if you went from OFF to COOL and the stat is a digital stat It will not come on for five min. This is a delay set by the manufacture to protect the compressor. during normal operation you will not notice because thier will be more than 5 min from the time it shuts of till it need to come back on but if the system switch is set to off and you switch to cool or unit just shut off it will always delay 5min. usualy there will be some insdiction on the screen that it is in delay like a flashing COOL or SNOW FLAKE or the word WAIT. the unit will not be running until the flashing words go solid

What is wrong with a air condition when it want cut off unless the number is set up?

Doesn't sound like anything is wrong. The number that changes is your set point temperature. (Your desired room temperature) So, if the room temp is 78 and you raised your set point temperature to 80, your machine would then kick off. Keep in mind this is when cooling. If you were heating it would do the opposite. Remember, if your setpoint temp is 78, the unit will continue to cool when it gets 78 simply because if it maintained exactly 78 all day long the unit would kick in and off 20 times per hour. Therefore most tstats will cool to 77 and not kick back on until the room temp gets to 79, preventing the machine from cycling too many times. Hope this helps!!

Model #FGHC2331PF frigidaire. Controls were set for 35F fridge and 0F freezer, but when the fridge stopped the temps went up. They are now at 40F fridge and 5F freezer. Why?

Because nothing is perfect. As soon as the compressor stops running, the refrigerator will start to get warmer as the ambient temperatures will affect it. Then after a few degrees of temp rise, if thermostat is working properly, unit will kick on again to lower temps to preset level. And the cycle continues.

Maytag m6x06f2a like new but doest blow cold air

Make sure the Thermostat is set correctly! The problem with mine was the temp in the house was colder than my A/C lowest thermostat setting.I had my AC temp setting on 66 degrees. The temp in the house was a little lower so the AC didnt kick on just the fan blowing cool air and no compressor working. The next day it was warmer out and the house temp was 79. So when I powered up the AC set at 66 i heard the compressor kick in and the AC worked fine.

Heat Pump - blows heat to set temp, then off, then kicks on to blow cold

Heat pumps defrost which is the AC mode, if the heat strip isnt working during a defrost, the air will be cold, A heat pump only feels warm if the heat strips are on too! the refrigeration cycles heat output is much less sensible to our 98F skin. heat pumps that satisfy a room setpoint are working at least, all heat pumps feel drafty to most.

A/C clutch kicks on intermitten on my 2004 Corolla.

power to the ac compressor is the problem
could be the thermostat relay or what you have the ac set at
the ac will cycle if the cabin temp is at the setting
if you have climate control it will cycle as well

I am staying at my daughters house and the a/c is not coming on. I tried overide but keeps going back to 78 as temp. I want 74.

When you select the temperature on this t- stat its will say 74 degrees the it goes back to 78 because thats what the room temp is at. Hunter is a very cheap brand of t- stat and also confusing. Here is what I would try move the temp to 74 then look for a hold button select that see what happens.

Thermastat is reading colder than the actual temperature of the room

Your question is phrased a little odd.

1) If when you say 'thermostat' - you are actually talking about a 'temperature reading' on your thermostat - then I would tell you to just get another temp measuring device and double-check the temp.

2) if howerver you are talking about the set-point of your thermostat - for example - you might have it set on 70 degrees and the room temperature is 78 - then I would say that the AC is not big enough to pull the temp down to 70 in the room, or, you have a problem with the AC that does not allow the unit to pull the temp down.

good luck!
