Check the capacitor. The top where the wires are attached should be flat. When a capacitor is bad this area will be puffed up Lightening strikes or power surges usually are the cause. A new one should cost 12 to 14 dollars. P S don;t let anyone sell you a new capacitor as part of an A/C service. If the motor runs the capacitor is good. A new one will fail for the same reason an old one would. Some shameless servicers charge as much as they think you can pay. One lady called and asked if I had a used capacitor Her service man wanted $800.00 for a new one. $25.00 is more than 100% mark up. and she did not need one.
