Question about Weber Grilling

Ace lp troubleshooting

My 1996 Weber Performa gas ignition grill came with a 5lb tank which cannot be re-filled (rust). Want to convert to 1lb propane cylinders. Bought a converter from Coleman that fits the cylinder but is designed with a screw end to fit in the regulator - my old tank came with a quick disconnect fitting so the regulator is attached to a plain unthreaded nipple. How do I fix?

SOURCE: bought a weber genesis 320

1. Most US gas bottle regulators are set to 30mBar, Germany is usually 50mBar.
2. Most European gas fittings are a left hand thread. Although surprisingly they are often still have an English / imperial thread type (1/4" R is a common gas appliance thread type in Germany).
3. 30mbar gas appliances are still occasionally used in Germany, mostly imported from the US for use in a a caravan or boat.

Check the link below the replacement regulator for your Genesis E-320 to work with German gas cylinder.

SOURCE: Bought a weber genesis 320 Problem with the Weber

Normally, at least on an American grill hose/regulator assembly are a universal fit. And both ends of the hose have female couplings. I would think it would be the same on German Models too. For the connection to the grill, the hose coupling size is 3/8" ID.

Hello. I have Weber Summit 670 NG and I would like to convert it to LPG. I was told that it can be solved if I replace the NG Orifice with LPG Orifice. Is that true ? Where can I buy the LPG Orifice...

Ronni, unfortunately none of the Weber grills are approved for conversion from one type of gas to another. Each grill is tested and approved for it's specific gas type. Based on that, converting it, places all the liability on you, if something should go wrong. In addition, it takes more than just the burner orifices to convert a grill safely. With any gas appliance, always err on the side of caution and safety.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I purchased my Weber E-310 NG unit a year ago. I just moved and need to convert the grill to LP. Does Weber sell the conversion kit? if not what would be the best way to convert the unit?

Weber no longer offers or support conversion kits. If you do any conversion it will VOID you warranty!

That said, if you can find the parts online for the LP version of your grill you can convert it yourself if you are mechanically inclined.

You will need to change the JETS and the GAS REGULATOR. Unfortunately they do not sell official Weber Gas Jets alone. You will have to by the complete LP Manifold, valves and all as well as the Tank Hose with Regulator...

Make sure you are comfortable with all of this... Leak testing etc...

You may have luck finding parts at:

How do I convert a natural gas grill to propaine

You would have to get the orifices from Weber for your specific grill. A couple of weeks ago, Weber informed me that they would no longer ge doing conversions, so I don't know if you can get the parts or not. You would also need an LP hose and regulator and an LP tank.

My thoughts, are you turning tank off after cooking, not only turning of cooking valves but also turn off tank, if you don't gas will leak out. If you do turn tank off, then you have a leaking valve in the tank.

Converting Weber from LP to Natural Gas

On the weber model you need to purchase the natural gas model. It will cost you alot more to buy all parts needed to convert. Weber doesnt want you to convert do to safety reasons. This is why they will only tell you you can't convert. Buy the right grill and save yourself a headache.

Stick with the one pound disposable propane bottles & you will be fine. The 5lb tank is not compatable.

Weber grill will not heat up, reaches 200F and no higher

Also, it has to shut down the same way every time you use your grill.

Here is a Tip to fix a grill that not getting hot:
1. Turn the gas valve knob off. then close LP tank valve knob.
2. Unscrew the plastic hose coupling knob from the LP tank. You may hear a slight "hissing" sound as pressure is released this is normal.
3.Wait a minute then screw the coupling knob back on to LP Tank.
4.With lid open.slowly open LP tank valve.
5.Relight the grill the proper way by turning gas valve knob to ON position while turning the igniter knob at the same time.
6.After you are sure the grill is lit preheat the grill for 30 minutes.

This was called purging the line or releasing the air out of the line.

Another thing your orifice could be clogged with spiders or dirt. If it is LP gas check to make sure your hose is not kinked.

Weber won't get very hot

Safety valve needs reset.
  • Close the LP tank valve
  • Turn all burner control knobs to the OFF position
  • Open the grill lid
  • Turn the LP tank valve until it is completely open
  • Wait several seconds
  • Turn the front burner to the HI/Start position
  • Press the igniter until the burner is lit.
  • Turn remaining burners to High
  • Close the lid.
  • The grill should preheat to 500-550 degrees in 10-15 minutes
I called Weber and the rep walked me through the reset. All grills made after 1996 have this bypass valve.
