i'm a business traveler and travel to a lot of foreign countries , in my experience unlock codes
are the very best method to unlock Blackberry phone , i used unlock codes procured from http://www.unlocking4u.com/
to unlock my phones and it worked wonderfully well
This unlock code provider generate full LEGAL unlock code
direct from Blackberry server which wont void your warranty, &
generate code based on your IMEI, means individual code for every
blackberry set. After unlocking from this provider's code your
blackberry not only work with single network, you can use your
Blackberry in any part of world with any network including your browser
& MMS picture messaging to work, yes with just one time entering
code from your keypad. They unlock from network who locked your
blackberry This site will help you a lot & good email & 24/7
I am actually unsure what could have caused this. It might not be unlocked correctly or could have been damaged when the software was modified. But T-Mobile carried the BB7290 so if you can get ahold of the person who unlocked it for you I would ask for a branded T-Mobile phone.
Like you being with T-mobile, I bought a cingular phone off ebay that wasn't unlock. My sims didn't work either. My network just said call Cingular which is now AT&T and they gave me the MEP code to unlock it. Beware, you need to confirm all of your information from your network before they will help you.

Or any documentation that came with the device
From what you say- and I am not an expert with CellPhone devices/Systems- there appears to be no service available in your part of the world.
