If u can still access the system, do a SYSTEM RESTORE. You can press F8 while booting the machine and go to safe mode and(most off the time it comes up if the problem is related to a new service or a software), and it will ask you whether u require a system restore. You can do it from either way.
So to get the system restore from the control panel(if u can still log in to Win XP-not in safe mode), go to category view and then click on performance and maintenance and select the system restore from the left panel.
Then select a date and try to restore it. Make sure u scan the system with an updated anti virus suite. Click on my computer icon and go to manage. Then in the management console, go to events and system and application category. Check whether there are any problems. In the same console, there is the device manager. Check that for any device malfunction.
Please rate the answer if it helps u. Message for more details. Thanks

How to reset factory settings from a trojan virus

Be careful if you try to actually do a restore on your pc. If you use your restore function in XP through win 7, and you had the trojan at the last restore point, you'll get it again.

Try downloading an application called Malwarebytes. It's free and exceptionally effective against these types of bugs. This will prevent you from having to lose all of your data.

If you feel that a full restore is the way to do it, I would use your PC's restore disk, and delete the partition and reformat as well. This will be your best bet to get rid of the bug, but again, a critical loss of all data.

If you don't have the original disk, you may be able to contact the manufacturer and ask them for a restore disk for your specific model. If they want to charge you for it, look on the internet for someone selling them cheaper. Lastly, if you have vista or windows 7, search google for the respective restore disk or download. There are some legal ways of downloading the restore functions for those two operating systems, and you can rebuild your system from scratch.

If you feel that you're going to have to rebuild everything, and might lose your registration key, get a program called jellybean. it will search your system and extract the key so you can document it and use it again later.

good luck

Cant reinstall XP asks for restore plus cd!!!

Dear Sir,

Welcome to Fixya Support.

According to your problem description,it seems that you formatted your computer hard disk by connecting it to another PC.If it is yes.
Your Hard Disk completely formatted along with your windows drive i.e C drive. So you have to reinstall operating system by using recovery or restore plus CD supplied along with your PC.Restore plus cd means a CD which is having operating system files, and needed when operating system fails to boot.If you purchased Genuine operating system along with your PC,you should have recovery or operating system CD.
if you are not having recovery CD,you can use windows XP CD for fresh installatin of your operating system

I think it helps.

If you any difficulty leave a comment,we were happy to assist you.

Recovery disks for vista what if I go with Windows 7

When you upgrade to Windows 7 you will be given options of setting up recovery disks....

To create a system repair disc
  1. Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore.
  2. In the left pane, click Create a system repair disc, and then follow the steps. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To use the system repair disc
  1. Insert the system repair disc into your CD or DVD drive.
  2. Restart your computer using the computer's power button.
  3. If prompted, press any key to start the computer from the system repair disc.
    • If your computer isn't configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You might need to change your computer's BIOS settings.
  4. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
  5. Select a recovery option, and then click Next.

Windows doesn't recognize recovery partition after os reinstall

The issue you are having involves using multiple systems,...If your emachine came with vistan and you installed xp, you voided your warranty status...However remove your dual boot and stick to vista if you wanna keep your restore partition working properly.....On a side note theres usually conflict with running OEM OS's on dual boot...typically it doesnt work and if it does it doesnt work like you want it to! so here is what you can do..Call Emachine up and fib to them a bit (just alittle) tell them that you cought a nasty bug and it messed with your restore partition and now you cant restore your pc....request the factory programing discs (if you ask nicely they'll hook you up 99.99% of the time) you get the discs so you can reprogram the pc to factory spec if you ever wanted to. Now use a retail version of vista and a retail version of xp. and create your dual boot, feel free to remove your restore partition if you want (cause you have the factory programing discs if you wanna go back to stock stuff YAY) I hope this helps!

I have an Averatec 2370 notebook with Windows XP and I want to return it back to factory settings to give away. I press F2 for BIOS but I am unable to find a way to return it to factory settings. Any help...

What do you mean by "back to the factory settings"?
If you want the laptop back to when you first bought it then you need to format the hard disk and do a fresh Windows install plus install the device drivers for your laptop.

Deleted Vista Recovery Partition. Now XP installer can't read HDD

if you have created recovery disk before the deleting of the recovery partition u can format the drive from your bios and create a new recovery partition using the recovery disk if not if your pc has crashed and your recovery partition is gone u will have to get a new operating system software but if your pc is still stable just run the recovery manager and restore to factory settings and it will put recover partition back on your hard disk

NO SYSTEM RECOVERY IS WORKING on my Sony PCV-RS530G Windows XP

First get the trogen, malware or virus out, it is more than likelly causing the problem. Make sure you have a good virus program, I had one similar and most virus programs won't take it out or even show some of the latest bugs. Tech support is a waste of time for the most part, was your restore turned off?, Boot into safe mode, and run a spybot search and destroy, and AVG- free virus program that you can get on their site and download the program perhaps with another machine. Otherwise there are "DOS" commands that you can try, it could be the MBR, a corrupted file,or many other things. But if it happened suddenlly, chances are some kind of bug got in, you also are going to need a bootable Operating System Disk if this stuff dosen't work. good luck
