Question about Hitachi 57SWX20B 57" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Went from great picture to black after a couple of flickers. Sound Great.

The picture was fine, it flickered a couple of times, went black came back on then flickered again and went black. I turned it off and back on, it came on momentarily, still a good picture then went black again. The sound is fine. I had a TV repair guy come out and I don't think he had a clue. He didn't bring any diagnostic equipment in the house. He decided the (from the rear of the set) left section the the circuit board needed replacing, he took mine brought another, it made no difference. Then he took the mid section of the board and returned, still no difference. On his 3rd trip he brought in his multimeter and checked the high voltage power source. He said it was only something like 20 volts (?) and said it should be 60,000. He said he couldn't get another but he would rebuild. He came back in stalled and I heard a pop. No picture but still sound. My set was purchased 6/03 and used less than 3 months out of each year since purchased. I cannot find any repair services in the yellow pages. Any suggestions? Many Thanks Lou

Used to flicker, now dead

You possibly need to replace either the Main board, or the power board, they both can be purchased online, and you can either install yourself or go to a site like and accept bids.

Color flickers on and off

I went to the Sony support page for your model.(link below)
They are undergoing maintenance right now, so I couldn't find any answers for you. I would check back with the website to see if they can help you. If the Standby timer light flashes, you may need to have the TV repaired. There is a "Hot Topics" section for "How to troubleshoot television picture issues" that will probably be very helpful to you.

Screen seems to dim and there is flickering while watching

This is both a common and fairly easy repair in this unit. Remove the back, but not all of the back needs to be removed to access the power supply area and locate the power supply board. You might find that all three E919,E920,E921 of the 35v/680uf caps in the upper left of the PS board are bowed and/or vented. Replace all three of them even if they test good...
Next, esr the remaining caps. Last one we did here in the shop there were 16 total that we replaced, many were orange in color but I don't have any notes on their value. The orange color of the cap is a lesser temp range we used 105 degree or better as replacements. Some we used a higher rated cap (higher voltage) same uf rating. Gave it a greater reliability.
Good Luck!

TV picture flickers

If your DVD player is separate from your tv, you might have a loose cable plug or connection. Depending on the type of flicker you have, a vertical circuit loose connection would cause this. If you could connect it to a cable or antenna it might tell you where the problem is located. A faulty circuit in the DVD might cause this too. Stargazer
