The draining of the water is usually a problem with the valve actuator that is in the system to direct the flow of water to the pool or spa. For a picture of what this is, follow the link below:

Sometimes the small toggle switch on the back of this unit will get flipped to the second position, instead of the first, and will drain water. Other times, the valve has gone bad and will need to be replaced.

As for the heater, do you see any error codes or anything that will help determine what this issue is caused by?

(IF- Ignition Failure) It may be your flame sensor failing to recognize that the heater has fired. This will tell the gas valve to close if it does not detect a flame.

Can anyone out there help? I have a 4-year old Pentair Minimax 100 Natural Gas pool heater that was working since we started up the pool in June and it suddenly stopped heating the water. Don't even hear...

you need the heaters replaced, take the model number to your local spa or pool company and they can give you the model and the booklet on how to replace. be sure to turn power off before working on it. some models have valves to shut off water so you don't have to drain it, others don't so the free manual will be very helpful. If the heaters are while and blown out then your PH level is high and you will need to adjust for that condtion, or tell people to quit peeng in the pool.

Heater is leaking

Close all pool drain valves, also all return valves. This will stop any water being sucked out of pool.

My Jandy Laars Natural Gas pool heater (LJ250N)

Check your heater by-pass valve and be sure it is almost closed. If not that then it will be your internal by-pass. These will force water through heater and keep it from overheating the water inside it and shuting it down. Also check to be sure the baskets are clean and the filter is clean.
