You didn't specify the make or model of your mower, but generically speaking for self-propelled walk-behind mowers, the drive belt or the front wheel gears can wear out after several years of use. The drive belt could also be loose or off the pulley. The belt and the front wheels can usually be replaced.
You can remove the drive pulley cover and see if the belt is off.
The other components that make up the drive system are the gearbox and the engagement cable. Sometimes the cable can get get out of adjustment or come loose.
yes it could sounds like the cable is out of adjustment remove cover to see if belt still mounted and how to engage selfpropepelld adjust cable accordanlly
When installing the handle on this machine, you must be sure the on/off switch and the self propel button are both in the OFF position. The actual switch inside must also be OFF, and the metal fitting on the end of the power drive cable should be between the two lines molded into the plastic. After it is re-assembled, it is sometimes necessary to wiggle the handle up and down a bit to engage or disengage the drive button.
It may just be a matter of adjusting the cable. Sometimes they dont get them adjusted just right from the factory, heres what you do. Locate the plastic shroud in front of the push mower that covers the drive unit.Determine which screwdriver or torx bit is needed to remove shroud and remove it. After removal you will see a pulley with belt around it, as you pull the handle back to engage self propel you should see the pulley move into the belt to put tension on the belt. You can do this with it running to see if enough tension is being put on the belt,if not, locate the cable end where the small bracket holds the cable in place. Loosen the cable bracket and move cable until you have correct tension again, hope this helps.
hello
check the drive cable as not come adrift or broken
you can usually adjust the tension on top of the drive cable
also check drive belt is on the two pulleys
hope this helps
The flat belt should be changed if it has been longer than 9-12 months. Next I would remove the upper handle to inspect the top section of the control cable, sometimes it fray's and has a sponge feel (no positive control) to self propel. To set this adjustment, it is best to do withthe hood off of the lower section. I would also look at the cable jacket in the foot to make sure it is under the metal clamp. It must be under the clamp to work properly. To get it under the clamp loosen one hold down screw at the top and one in the back of the vacuum, remove clamp screws and put jacket into position and then secure all screws. Now set the adjustment, Install upper handle and set self propel to off. loosen cable from arm in foot with torx screw. manually move arm until the clutch is off both drive pads. This is a visual adjustment. then secure and reassemble vacuum.
