Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Unexpected "shutdowns" I have a Packard Bell EasyNote laptop.. It gets really hot and it's always making like a fan sound.. It turns off at random times and doesn't turn back on for a few hours and sometimes it just restarts.. The "blue screen of death" comes up quite alot.. Nothing comes up when I do a virus scan, but my mum thinks there's a virus on the network because my brother's hard drive also has an error..

I just cleaned the vents and now it quiet :) .. But yeah it probably is the
RAM because I changed it a few months ago which is when it started.. I formatted
the hard drive and it made it better for a few weeks but then recently it's
started getting loads worse then it was before.. I was going to mention that
before but I forgot lol.. And I don't get how to do that RAM test thing so yeah..but tbh I don't really think I need to test it, cos it's obvious it's bad right?

  • bulletsaresc Jun 26, 2009

Well I did that. And I downloaded it and put it on a disk like it said, I think. But then I got stuck..
And I got the new RAM and the old RAM in... is that another problem? Just the old one was really slow cos its 1GB and I have vista.. so I got another 2GB..
Btw thanks for helping me :)

I suggest you to clean the vents near the fan by opening your laptop. Also remove any recently added hardware. The issue can occur even due to bad RAM. I recommend you to try the steps in the below link:

The issue seems to be with the RAM.
To test the RAM, visit the notebook-solutions blog and in Resolution click on 1 option which is Testing the RAM.
Normally we experience these issues if the RAM that has been installed is incompatible with your system.

Replace your RAM with the older one (if it is working) or with a new one similar to your older RAM.

Remove one of the two memory modules (RAM) and check for the issue.
First remove the newer one and install only the older RAM in the laptop and check if the issue persists.
If everything works fine after removing the new RAM then the issue might be with the new RAM.

You can also try installing only the new RAM by removing the older one and see if you are experiencing the issue.

Placing 1GB in one slot and 1 GB in other slot might also resolve the issue.

Why is sound gone on packard bell easynote

Click Start/Control Panel/Hardware and sound, and adjust your computer settings. Sounds like maybe your Playback device could be set wrong. Should be "Speakers" if you are using speakers or headphone.

Press start button laptop just buzzes

Has it been dropped, or is there any kind of holes that something could have lodged into it? Otherwise it sounds like the battery needs to be replaced, as it is not getting enough power.

Your local Electronics store may be able to check your battery out for you, but I would suggest calling first to make sure there is no charge for the visit.

Why are you holding down the power button? That can ruin the button.

Does this help? Let us know.

Hi there, i have a packard bell easynote mh36 and the fan on it is always on and making a right noise, i think i need a new an, if i bought a new fan would it sort this problem out and where can i buy a...

This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked.
You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.

Acer aspire 5000 unexpected shutdowns, random, fan running.

Hello

Thank you for using FixYa.

Have you cleaned out the airvents and fan area. these build up with dust and if the unit gets too hot it will shut down unexpected

Also always use on a hard surface so the airvents are kept clear

thanks

My packard bell easynote laptop gets quite hot, when the fan kicks in it's blowing hot, and i cannot leave it on my lap for too long, when the fan stops the laptop still feels hot, are there any settings...

if you have the skills to do it you'll need to access the fan(s) and clean out all the dust and dirt that has collected in them. I acquired a compal notebook that kept shutting down because of heat. visually it looked fine in the fan area. it wasn't till i removed the fan covers that i found about a half inch of dust and cat hair next to the heat sink... once that was removed it barely heats up.
I have noticed that some laptop fans don't come on till close to meltdown. My dell laptop was like that. sometimes the only solution is to get a laptop cooler pad to sit the laptop on.
