Unexpected "shutdowns"

By bulletsaresc on Jun 26, 2009

I have a Packard Bell EasyNote laptop.. It gets really hot and it's always making like a fan sound.. It turns off at random times and doesn't turn back on for a few hours and sometimes it just restarts.. The "blue screen of death" comes up quite alot.. Nothing comes up when I do a virus scan, but my mum thinks there's a virus on the network because my brother's hard drive also has an error..

- I just cleaned the vents and now it quiet :) .. But yeah it probably is the RAM because I changed it a few months ago which is when it started.. I formatted the hard drive and it made it better for a few weeks but then recently it's started getting loads worse then it was before.. I was going to mention that before but I forgot lol.. And I don't get how to do that RAM test thing so yeah..but tbh I don't really think I need to test it, cos it's obvious it's bad right?

- Well I did that. And I downloaded it and put it on a disk like it said, I think. But then I got stuck..
And I got the new RAM and the old RAM in... is that another problem? Just the old one was really slow cos its 1GB and I have vista.. so I got another 2GB..
Btw thanks for helping me :)

I suggest you to clean the vents near the fan by opening your laptop. Also remove any recently added hardware. The issue can occur even due to bad RAM. I recommend you to try the steps in the below link:

- The issue seems to be with the RAM. To test the RAM, visit the notebook-solutions blog and in Resolution click on 1 option which is Testing the RAM. Normally we experience these issues if the RAM that has been installed is incompatible with your system.
Replace your RAM with the older one (if it is working) or with a new one similar to your older RAM.

- Remove one of the two memory modules (RAM) and check for the issue. First remove the newer one and install only the older RAM in the laptop and check if the issue persists. If everything works fine after removing the new RAM then the issue might be with the new RAM.
You can also try installing only the new RAM by removing the older one and see if you are experiencing the issue.
Placing 1GB in one slot and 1 GB in other slot might also resolve the issue.
