Question about HP Pavilion a1120n (PX759AA) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Memory upgrade problem

I have an hp pavilion a1120n and I am trying the add additional memory to it. I have bought 2-1gb memory (pc3200) twice, each time the computer responds the same way. When I install it, either in addition to the existing memory or without the existing memory, when i turn the computer on, it comes on (ie, the power is still working & the fan kicks on), but does not boot up. When I remove the new memory and put the existing memory back in, it is fine. Help!

Thanks. I have done that. And the memory is the correct memory (both times). The existing memory that the computer came with has been moved all around each time I tried the new memory and it works fine in all the slots.

Will try the one new and one old.

I had some beeps once, but they were in backwards, so switched them and the beeping stopped.

I tried one new memory and one old memory. It starts to boot then says ntldr is missing and says ctrl+alt+del to restart. Press that, it restarts and goes back to that. Change to both old memory and it is still doing that... Now do not have a functioning computer at all... Suggestions???

CAN I INSTALL DDR2 MEMORY OR DO I HAVE TO USE THE DDR TYPE FOR HP PAVILION DV5215US

Your unit uses:
DDR memory with support for DDR PC3200, DDR PC2700 speeds.

Because DDR memory is backward-compatible, you can safely upgrade your system with any of the guaranteed-compatible DDR speeds listed below, even if your manual calls for PC1600 or PC2100 speeds.

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC3200, DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

What video card can i buy for my computer ? I have a HP Pavilion a1120n . It already has an internal video card , but i want to upgrade . Its a Intel (R) 82915G / GV / 910GL Express Chipset with 128 mb...

I suggest you install an AGP video card that suits your requirements. If you play games that require a powerful graphics card, then I recommend the G Force range of graphics cards. A computer shop can recommend to you a graphics card depending upon what programs you are running on your computer. The games programs usually recommends a graphic card with their games.
Don't forget to disable/turn off the on-board graphics card in the BIOS if you use an external graphics card.

Can I add 1GB memory chip in 2nd slot with a 512MB chip in 1st?

You can upgrade by inserting a 1GB PC2100 DDR SDRAM DIMM. I would put the 1MB in the first slot and move the 512MB chip to the second slot.
The 1GB should cost around $40.
