Re: Says Protect on the screen when i plug it in

Most likely cause could be a blown power amp IC. The part number is STK402-040.

Quit working and says protect arcoss the screen. turned power off n still says protect when its turned on

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Eure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

My sharp cd BA150 is in Protect mode. What can I do?

The protect mode indicates that a problem was detected in the final stage of amplification and the unit has shutdown to prevent further damage. These units use an AMP-pac part number: VHISTK40270N1 which is available at for $53.09 plus shipping.

I tryed to have additonal speaker on my sharp cd-BA 150 player all sudden stop working and gave me an error message "PROTECT" so how do I fix that?

The output amp section for your system is not designed to run more than the speakers that come with it. By adding more, you presented too low an impedence load to the amp and overheated it. This occurred too quickly for the internal protection circuits to kick in to prevent damage to the outputs. This unit will now require that the outputs be replaced. These are not the easiest units to work on, so I would not suggest that you attempt this repair yourself. Expect a parts cost in the $35 range for this repair. Dan

Says protect on screen

either too many speakers hooked up (bad ohm load) or internal flaw try unhooking speakers and cranking it up while playing if it stays on its the speaker wiring or even the speakers by themselves

You have a blown amplifier IC in the stereo that must be replaced, that is what causes the protect error on the display. It is a good idea to take it to a repair center and have them do it if you are willing to spend about $125 to $150, depending on the rates of the shop, to have it repaired. Otherwise, you will just need to get a new one. There is no other way to fix this problem without replacing the amp IC.

Sorry for the bad news, I wish I could have given you an easy fix, but there just isn't one for this problem.

Let me know if I can be any more help.

I need help

It shows "protect" because the amp IC is blown. You would need to replace it or take it to a repair center and have them do it. The repair cost is normally from $125 to $150, depending on the rates of the shop. If you do not have really good soldering skills and know how to dis-assemble and re-assemble these type of units, you really should just take it in for service.

Let me know if you need any more help.

My audio system says protect on display

As Shown Here, A Sharp-Associated Repair Person Suggested Replacing A Specific Output IC, As Well As Two Other Small Components. The Total Of The Three Replacement Parts Is $55.43. I Suggest Doing The Repair Yourself, As The Stereo Would Be No Longer In Warranty, Unless You Have No Experience With Working With Electronics.
