How do I get the maxtor one touch 4 owners manual

No need to purchase the software, it's available free from the Seagate website. Seagate recently bought out/merged with Maxtor and has taken over support. Got to:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

Ckick on Maxtor External Drives then click on One Touch 4 Family.

Click on download Software link below the name of the version you have One Touch 4/Mini/Plus and the software will download. You can just install it or you can save a copy to burn to disk and then intall from the saved copy.

It may be that you have a permissions issue and if the owner on your new imac is different from that on the Maxtor. Single click on your hard drive then go to the file menu and select get info and see under sharing and permissions who the owner is it may be a case that the owner is unknown. If this is the case click on the padlock and insert your password then click on the + (at the bottom left) and select the appropriate owner and make the privilege to be read & write then on the gear symbol * (next to the minus symbol) and make it Apply to enclosed items.

If they are truly locked first of all try this with a single file on the drive single click on the file and then go to the file menu and select get info and see if the "locked" checkbox is shown under general. If it is uncheck it for this file and see if you can transfer it across. If it works then single click on the disk drive and see if the dik drive is locked.

Your problem is that you have 2 different proprietary companie's hardware and they are incompatible with each other. You should reinstall the Maxtor Mini 4 and copy the Data to a cd or dvd, or print all of the data to have hard copies of your Data. After you made hard copies of your Data, now you can re-enter all your Data into the new HP system.
