Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

Dishwasher soap residue

Recenly, our dishwasher does not rinse all the soap from the dishes. Either powder, or liquid, the soap is still there. Also tried using 1/2 the amount of soap, with the same results.

SOURCE: dishes not getting clean

I just fixed mine that had the same problem. It turned out to be the red rubber check-valve just inside where the drain hose attaches to the bottom of the motor. This check-valve, when operating properly during the drain cycle, will only allow water to drain out. During the wash cycle, it will prevent dirty water from the p-trap from being sucked back into the dishwasher. If this check valve gets dislodged or stuck open, dirty water will get sucked back into the dishwasher during the wash cycle, leaving dishes dirty and, perhaps, water left in the bottom. First, detach the drain hose from the p-trap and place in the sink or in a bucket. Turn the washer dial on and make sure the water does drain out and fully empty the water from the dishwasher. If not, you may have blockage in the drain hose. You can vac this out with a wet vac if needed. If you can successfully drain the dishwasher by clearing the drain hose, then pull the dishwasher out, place it on it's side and detach the drain hose from the motor. You may need some towels! Ensure this rubber valve is seated properly and reattach the hose. Hope this helps, it worked for me.

SOURCE: Subject is Bosch dishwasher SHU6800.

It cleans poorly If your dishwasher is cleaning poorly, check these:

Water-inlet valve
Internal filters
Drain valve
Spray arms
Water temperature
Detergent cup
Water-inlet valve Most cleaning problems are caused by the dishwasher not getting enough wash water, so the water-inlet valve is often to blame. This valve is usually at the bottom left or right of the dishwasher, behind the lower access panel. It's the device with the main water line from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it.

When a water-inlet valve is defective, you may hear the sound that's usually referred to as "water hammer." If the water-inlet valve is defective, you need to completely replace it.

Dishwasher Water Inlet Valve Replacement

Be sure to read and understand any instructions that come with the new water inlet valve.

Tools required:

Adjustable wrench

Step 1. Disconnect the dishwasher from its power source.

Note: Dishwashers are usually wired directly to the home’s electrical system. To disconnect the power, switch off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse for the electrical circuit the dishwasher is attached to. Try to turn the unit on after disconnecting the power to be sure you were successful.

CAUTION: If you’re not sure you’ve shut off the power properly, DO NOT CONTINUE. Call a qualified appliance repair technician to complete the repair.

SOURCE: my viking dishwasher does not rinse the soap scum off the dishes

Its not soap, its actually calcium from hard water. There is a new product out at that solves this problem once and for all. It is a small filter that goes under the sink and filters out the hard minerals that cause these spots from the water before they enter the dishwasher. It is very affordable (like 70 bucks) and even has a money back guarantee. After just one load you will be amazed how your dishes look.

SOURCE: new dishwasher leaving powder residue on dishes.

Quit using the new Cascade. The formula change is what is causing the problem. No research from Cascade before releasing the product

The dishes do not rinse properly--despite rinse

run some calcium lime and scale remover throught the unit on an empty wash cycle just to get rid of any build up that may be there.
turn the rinse aid down to about half way.
also check the phosphours content of you washing agent.
there is a lot of factor involved with leaving film on the dishes, it could also be residual soap content that is sticking to your dishes.
reduce the amount of soap a little.does not matter if it is liquid or powder.
once every three months you need to run cleaner through the machine.
last thing but very important make sure the incoming water temp i no lowe rthan 120 degrees.

Extra suds due to liquid soap in the machine overflowing. How do I drain it?

This is strange. Are you using an electric dishwasher liquid soap, OR are you using a dish soap that you manually use to wash dishes?
REGULAR dish soap liquid that is not specifically made for dishwashers creates a foamy suds with lots of bubbles that will in fact bubble out of your dishwasher. on the other hand. Electric Dishwasher detergent will NOT create foamy suds with lots of bubbles.
Switch your soap. The next cycle any residue suds or soap will be gone as long as you use the proper liquid detergent. I would also recommend using a rinse agent which further helps break down and rinse off residue.

you have a temperature issue. the soap has to dissolve when it gets above 120 degrees. you should be using the water heat option, sometimes called the water heat added, or high temp wash. use this cycle and then do not over do the soap. only use the smallest amount and always use dry powder, do not use liquid or tablets.
make sure that there is a rinse agent in the dispenser. it does not have to be full but does need to have some in it.

Liquid soap mistakenly used - bubble explosion

Fill the detergent cup with fabric softener for a full cycle. Don't be alarmed if bubbles seep out.

Finish off with a white vinegar wipedown of the insides if it still feels soapy.
