New Frigidaire 15,000 AC makes knocking sound

My Frigidaire 15,000 BTU window AC, about three weeks old, makes a knocking sound. How can I be sure this is part of the ''normal sounds'' described in the manual--the pinging and clicking you hear when water drops hit the compressor? The machine has large vents on top where I can imagine some object might have fallen in--maybe I can look in there to see. Any suggestions on what to do before calling a service person? Thank you!

Knocking happens when the compressor is faulty. The clicking is often the overheat Klickson switch clicking on and off. If is three weeks old, call it in under warranty.

A few things may cause a grinding noise during the spin cycle. If the washer fills normally, but when it starts to AGITATE or SPIN, it makes a noise, this is usually caused by a bad motor coupling, bad transmission, basket drive assembly, or drive motor that's starting to fail. I also wouldn't rule out the clutch. It's really hard to tell without being there to see and hear what it is doing. I would also hate to tell you to call a repairman, but it may be wise in this situation because, even if you DO know what the problem is, it may be beyond your capabilities to repair. I could give you step by step tips on how to replace the parts, but diagnosing the CORRECT one would be the challenge. I hope this helps you some. PS The likely suspect in this case would be the transmission. Not a guarantee, but a guess.

SOURCE: New 14 seer split ruud heat pump makes very loud knocking noise

Well you may want to have a tech come out and check the freon level, but mostly when going into defrost, some units make alot of noise, the freon is reversed in the unit by way of the reversing valve, it makes a whooshing sound like freon is draining off, as far as the knocking noise, could be as I said in the beginning, might be low on freon, but it could be that, this particular unit does this, I have had units make some really strange noises in the past but functioned perfectly, hope this helped, please let us know, thanks again,

Can you tell me what size/make of motorhome you have? Certainly doesn"t sound right to me, and I've been working on them for over 15yrs. Whether it's a 13,500 BTU or 15,000 BTU, it should be plenty as long as motorhome has any insulation at all. I assume you have central air from ceiling?
The manufacturer usually states that the AC unit will supply 20F below ambient.
Is compressor staying engaged all this time?

Water doens't drain properly and sitting there,

that's fairly common for window units, it's ok to drill a small hole in the underside of the case to drain the water, just be sure you don't puncture the condenser in the process.

Adding cloth or any other sound absorbing material will not work. There is not enough room to add anything appreciable in the fan area.
