Changing Baud Rate from Automatic to 9600: 1.Enter 10 (one, zero).This will bring up WSW00 on the LCD window. 2.Change the 00 to 19.If the baud rate is set to automatic, the numbers that appear will be 11100010. 3.Change the 11100010 to 01100010.This sets the baud rate to 9600. 4.Press the "Set" button just below the LCD window. 5.Press "Stop". 6.Enter 99.This will exit Maintenance mode and make the fax ready to use again.

It is possible to lower the transmission speed of the initial handshake of the HP Officejet 9100 to a lower value that may aid in compatibility and resolve 223, 232, and 283 errors. The following steps will walk you through configuring the setting. These are temporary settings. If the unit loses power, the settings need to be reconfigured.
From the front panel:
Press and hold the * key for 3 to 5 seconds until the display screen reads Test -001+ .
Enter in 620 on the key board, and press the Check Mark and the screen will read Cfg param id:
Enter the parameter ____ on the key board and press the Check Mark.

Newer fax technology adjusts transmission speed automatcally, so no adjustment is necesary. therefore, there is no menu option to change it. Your problem resides either on your phone line or the one you are trying to connect to. Call the other people and ask them if thei are receiving without problem. If you are able to transmit elsewhere and the other party is receiving from everywhere, try turning off the ECM option on your unit.
