Try rebooting, and as it boots up press F8 repeatedly. Choose Last Known Good Configuration and see if that works. If not, try again and boot into Safe Mode.
If you get into windows, go to the control panel>System & Maintenance>Problem Reports & Solutions and see if there are any solutions to this error there. If the problem repeats when you reboot, you'll want to restore the system to an earlier time.
Otherwise, follow the steps in this tutorial to run Startup Repair from your Vista discs.
