I have a blackberry phone and the cursor on the phone don't go down, only sideways and up

The problem you describe is a common occurrence with all BlackBerry phones with a trackball. The cause of this is a build-up of dirt, dust, lint and debris that gets trapped under the trackball. Over time, the build-up fuses together with the natural oils on our fingers as we spin the trackball. This leads to small chunks of dirt trapped that get big enough to prevent the trackball from spinning in a given direction - and sometimes even from being able to press down on it to make a selection.
To fix this, you will need the following items:
A. BlackBerry (with Trackball) B. Small, flathead screwdriver (Jeweler's driver) C. Toothpick (1) D. Lint-free cleaning cloth (or toilet paper/napkin) E. Q-tip (2)
1. Power off the BB and remove the battery cover and battery 2. With the phone facing you, insert the small, flathead screwdriver between the outside of the chrome track ring and the edge of the plastic phone face. 3. Slowly apply pressure downward, as if you were trying to open a can of paint. 4. There are 3 tiny clips that hold the track ring in place. Slowly wedge around until all three have been loosened. (Be careful as these are extremely fragile pieces and if they break, there's no repairing it, only replacement). 5. Once you remove the track ring, you can easily remove the trackball. 6. Look inside the the hole where the trackball was and if you spot any "gunk" or build-up, use the toothpick to flush it out. (Be careful not to damage the expose logic board) 7. Once any build-up has been removed, take the trackball and using a Q-tip, gently roll the ball around while also pushing the ball in, so as to free any trapped debris. 8. After a few swabs and after any visible gunk has been removed, insert the trackball and then the chrome ring, carefully! 9. Roll the trackball around and check for any blockage. 10. If there is blockage, disassemble the trackball and track ring again and repeat steps 6-8 until clean. 11. Once clean & reassembled, insert the battery and battery cover and power the BB on. 12. Check/re-check scrolling and selecting with the trackball, verifying that it works correctly.

My bb 8100 track ball will not go left! How do I fix it?

Hello.

Your Blackberry probably just needs cleaning.

Removing the pearl’s cover would the best way to get access to its sensor and clean it.

Carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! all parts have very small plastic pieces which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed, you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll, you’ll find a sensor wheel. You'll probably find that that those wheels are dirty and need cleaning. Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step.

Hope this helps.

BB Pearl's trackball scrolls but it will not

There is probably some corrosion underneith the center dome cover on the select button. It is held on by some tape. Simply remove the track ball then remove the center select button dome and clean/scrap both sides with a small screwdriver and reinstall. You will probably have to retape it down. This should get you up and running in no time.

Need to fix blackberry trackball

When this has happened to me I've used one of those wet wipes or a Q-tip soaked with rubbing alcohol to clean it off. It usually takes a few wipes. Sometimes I've taken it apart and cleaned the trackball with the q-tip when it's gotten really bad.
Here's a link to show you how it's done:

Blackberry pearl 8100 tmobile, with cingular sim

The MEP code is the same thing as a subsidy unlock code. The codes are specific to each IMEI. Meaning at&t could not unlock a T-mobile device and vice versa. You first need to find out which carrier has locked it to their network, then call them and ask for the code. I am not sure what the other carriers do, but at&t will unlock a phone bought from a third party as long as it is either a new at&t device (att in lower case) or a Cingular device and the IMEI does not appear on an active account, whether it be in write-off status or not.

My trackball on bb 9000 won't move down

good luck.
if you can get the part -- its a trackball assembly btw not just the ball itself
you press down on the silver ring around the ball and turn, the cover will fall out. use a small probe and lift the assembly out.
many times there's fuzz in there -- check it out before you buy a new assembly

Trackball gets stuck on BB 8100 Pearl

You can actually pop the trackball out and clean it and the sensors. remove (gently) the silver ring around the ball. if you break it you can buy new ones cheap.. it just snaps in to place. then the ball will fall out and you can take a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and clean it.

Blackberry curve 8310 trackball wont go down

Hi there

I had exactly the same problem. I spent a while trying to use a qtip to flush out the dirt but this didn't work.
I eventually sorted it by carefully lifting the cover (use a credit card to lift it up - slip it in the gap above the y key).
Then carefully hold the bb upside down and the trackball will fall out. Catch it in your hand.
Remove any obvious grit. I also used something out of a manicure set. I am not sure what it is called but it looks like a small tick remover. Anyway using one side I carefully slotted it into the small gap between the rubber ring and the trackball and lots of other bits of grit fell out.
Then once it was clean, I popped it back into the bb and refitted the cover - making sure to put the legs in the correct position.

It now works fine

Hope this helps

Phil
