I had that same problem but luckily mine was in warranty. The Main controller pcb located in the back of the fridge was bad and had to be replaced. The cost of the pcb is approx $500.00 usd. If you know of an electronic tech maybe he can fix it otherwise contact the store where it was purchased and see if they give you the contact info of the repair service for the refrigerator.

I recommend that you do preventive maintenance by cleaning the cob webs and dust accumulation from the coil located on the bottom of the refridgerator. The coils can be seen from the front of the fridge at floor level behind the removable plastic grille cover. The coils need to be also cleaned at the back of the fridge located near floor level, usually covered by a black colored, cardboard material cover that is removable. First start your cleaning process with a vacuum and hose attachment and clean as much as possible of the large debris. Second. use compressed air along with the vacuum to blow out any debris that could not be reached in the first step. Turn thermostat settings for fridge and freezer back to normal settings and allow time for temperatures to reset.

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

I've recently been having trouble with my american fridge freezer. The freezer isn't freezing and the fridge is barely cold. The motor is working and there is some cold coming from somewhere but...

Hello,
Let's start by diagnosing the freezer;
Fan problem is one of the most common reasons for the freezer to start failing, this is called "frost free failure." Ice can build up on the evaporator coils over time, and this ice builds up until it starts blocking the fan. The fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer, so if it is blocked the freezer will not be able to freeze any food. You can usually check this by removing an access panel in the back of the freezer to inspect the coils. If ice is built up on the coils, a hairdryer can assist in defrosting them.
It's also possible that the fan is not running at all. If the fan is burned out or the motor isn't running, cold air can't circulate through the freezer and everything will melt. You can normally hear the fan motor switch on and off from time to time. Listen for it and if you can't hear it coming on for an extended period of time, the motor may need repair or replacement. The wires connecting to the fan may be the problem, preventing the fan from receiving electricity.
Several other problems could be keeping your freezer from freezing:
There could be leaks in one or several of the hoses in the refrigerator, which results in the cold air being lost instead of circulating properly throughout the fridge and freezer.
If you have the freezer so full that the cold air can't circulate, your food will thaw even though the freezer isn't malfunctioning. Always leave some space open in the freezer and try to not store food right up against the cooling vents.
The thermostat might have shorted out, which means the freezer can't accurately determine how cold it is. If this is the case, the refrigerator would probably not be working, either.
If your defrost drain becomes clogged, the water in the line will just refreeze over and over again, which could damage the lines as well as the fan. Always check the drain and make sure no sludge is building up in it if you have a self-defrosting refrigerator.
Always try to keep the freezer door closed for long periods of time. The more the door is opened, the more warm air is let in and cold air is released. If the door is opened frequently, the freezer could be warming faster than the fridge can cool it, which will thaw your food
As for the fridge, the same solution but for more details. If refrigerator is not cooling properly can be due to a defrost timer, which is causing the fridge to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for refrigerator to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer goes bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat, it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees. This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced when replacing the thermostat.
1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover. 2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover. 3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector. 4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.
I hope the above helps.......
Good luck.

Frig stopped working but freezer is good? Help... I am handy.

When the freezer section gets cold and reaches its required cooling temperature, after that the frost on freezer section starts defrosting and the cooling fan in the freezer section blows this cool air from freezer to fridge. But if the defrost cycle does not start then over ice will get collected on freezer ventilations and that will block the air passing section from freezer to fridge, so the freezer gets cool but fridge section does not cool.
---------------

Its defrost problem. Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 24 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

Hi we have a GBS22HCPABB fridge and the motor runs, frezzer works but fridge will not get cold just stopped

you have a few possibilities 1. a defrost problem restricting air flow from freezer to ref. 2. a bad freezer fan motor 3. a damper issue not opening to allow air to flow from freezer to frig. most all refrigerators generate the cooling from the freezer to the frig via the freezer fan motor

Icing up, not defrosting corretly in freezer. Frig not staying cold enough.

Your refrigerator problem is directly related to your icing up - excess frost / icing up, defrosting problems causes cooling problems.
To rule out other problems shut down your unit and MANUALLy defrost it using a blowdryer, get all that ice buildup melted as well as the evap coils in your freezer - once it is fully defrosted put back the panel and turn on - give it a couple of hours to cool - if it cools properly, it is a defrost problem. Hopefully too, this resets your controlboard.

If problem returns eventually, you have a defrost timer problem and will need to get it checked - it can be any of the defrost components, controlboard, defrost thermostat, etc.

Maytag P MFD2561HEB model the frig is not cold but the freezer is fine. How do we set the frig control?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Freezer to cold refrigerator not cold enough

sounds like your defrost timer is not working properly . Most fridge/freezers the fridge gets cooled from the cool air from the freezer . But when the defrost timer is not working properly the section between the fridge and freezer freezes up and hence doesnt allow the flow of cool air into the fridge. The defrost timer can be easily replaced.
