I'm having the same problem with the Axis 9 I just purchased on eBay. And so is the person who posted
"Numark Axis 9's. . Problematic. Ahhhh!!!" Seems ridiculous that this would be so common. I definitely don't want to re-burn 100's of CDs just to use this CD player.
This is a sign that the optics are dirty of out of alignment. The static noise comes from digital dropout or a problem with the D/A converter IC. Try cleaning the lens first using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, update this and confirm you rmodel number. I will then check for the cost of replacement optics and D/A converters.
