Re: canon ZR 500
You need to open a video capture program like windows movie maker to capture the video and audio or I have adobe premier pro 8.0 it will allow you to edit and add features and burn DVD's and render the movie and burn to DVD with special effects.

Canon provides Windows Vista-compatible software and drivers (link) that should be installed in order to facilitate the connection. Some makes/models will 'just work' while others require the extra install first.
You have to use a firewire connection in order to transfer your videos. The cambera will not transfer the videos through the usb ports. There is no specific driver for Vista, and this isn't a driver issue. Use your firewire port and cable, and you should be fine.
Good luck,and hope this helps.
You need to have a Windows operating system later than Windows 98 Second Edition or a Mac with an OS later than 9. The driver for your camera is include with all later operating systems. Canon does not supply a separate driver for it.
There is software that can be downloaded from: ZR500 Downloads but it will not help without a driver installed.
Go to this link. Click on "Frequently Asked Questions" and then click on the appropriate link (#4). Basically, once the firewire cable is connected, make sure that the camcorder is in the playback mode, is turned on, and you see "DV IN" on the LCD. If all that is happening, your computer/software should be able to "see" the camcorder and download the video.
first of its you should be using windows xp because your driver is compatible with windows xp and for that your camcorder will recognize by your computer. after you insert the USB it should be appearing on your computer that something is connected on it and you should install the driver.
i will give you a step by step on your camcorder.
connect your camcorder using your USB cable to your computer and be sure it is ON
Install the cd driver camed with your camcorder. if you didnt prompt on looking for a driver then go to the add hardware on the control panel and follow the procedure there.
after the installation you should see the icon on the my computer labeled scanners and cameras and indicating the model of your camcorder.
Install Ulead Power Producer or any editing movie that you have like Windows movie maker, nero movier maker etc.. i prefer to use Ulead because its so easy to use
after uploading and editing your videos using ULEAD save it on any various types of videos that you like. you should see it after you want to save it.
Drivers are already preloaded for your camcorder as long as you are using Windows XP or Vista. You will need a program to capture the video to your computer. Pinnacle Studio will work for your camcorder.
Once the firewire cable is installed and the camcorder is turned on, pinnacle studio will give you the option to load itself up.
If you put a digital card into the camcorder then you can take it out and put into your computer, printer or regular camera. Windows should have a program though that will let you transfer the pictures from the camcorder to your computer.
