The Lens is most likely dirty, start by trying a DVD lens cleaner.

ifcleaning the lens a few times doesn't solve the problem, the laser mostlikely has dust inside the drive thats causing the issue or the dvddrive would need to be replaced.

When I insert a blank DVD+R to copy a VHS, It reads the disk, says "Unknown Disk" and ejects it. How do I record if I can't keep a disk in the machine?

What speed of disk did you use? On my older machine if I use faster than 4X it will not accept the disk. Check out your disk an see if the record speed is to fast for the machine.

About 5 years ago I transfered some vhs tapes to dvd using a go video vr 3840. I did not finalize the dvd's. I need to buy another vr 3840 to finalize the dvd's. Where can I find one to buy?

You should not need another '3840 to finalize the disks. Finalization just ends the index, makes writing back to the disk near impossible. You should be able to finalize / close the disk using a dvd authoring program (Nero, CD BurnerXP, etc).

The catch may be that the disks that you created are formatted as DVD video, closing a video disk may not be the same.

Another possibility is to use an authoring program (like the above) to copy your un-finalized disks to fresh media, and specify the disks to be finalized (or closed) when completed. I would try this first, the only thing to lose is time, and a disk. Oh, and about 4.7GB of hard disk space to create the image if you only have 1 DVD drive.

I had the same problem "unknown disk, please check disk". Tried the reset method described in the owner's manual (power off, unplug and wait 5 seconds). This did not work.

I then put the unit into the setup mode (press set-up on the remote.) I selected "Factory Settings" under the general category and then chose "Set". These reset the unit and it seems to be working okay now. Hope this helps.

Unknown disc, please, check disc again

I'm afraid it looks like this machine will only record on DVD-R disks not DVD R. See page 9 of the manual (link below to download): http://www.govideo.com/Download/VR3840_manual.pdf Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
