Ps3 system takes a little longer to turn on but when it does it says sony computer entertanment and then that disapears and the wavy lines keep moving but thats it,, it wont do anything after that,, the controller wont turn on ether,, som1 plz help
When turning on Press and hold your PS3 power button for about 6 seconds. You will hear 2 more bips!
This will reset your PS3 to MFG default. Connect your Composite jacks (Yellow, red, white) from your PS3 to your TV in order to hear and see the display! This will not delete any of your data!

your PS3 is freezing simply because your console is
affected by heat, so you have to cool it down. If the freezing
continues even after cooling down, you can follow the steps below:
stop the PS3 from Freezing, you could begin by putting off your console
and wait for 20 minutes. After that, put it back on. Check if
there's any loose cables. If there is, put them back in.
If the problem still persist, try the below steps,
Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system
will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been
shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4.
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will
be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS
button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery
Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. •
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. •
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. •
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore
PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. •
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
its a peace of junk just throw it in the garbage they should rename these things n call them Sony Playcrapper 3 IM SORRY BUT I NEVER PLAY MY PS3 AND A YEAR LATER ITS GARBAGE DOESNT WORK AND SONY SITTING BACK RITE NOW LAUGHIN AT US
Listen to the PS3... if you hear a fan running, your good. The fan is usually quite loud. It does look like your system is overheating. It is one of the older models, therefore Sony didn't learn from its mistakes much before they made it.
Take out hard drive...start system...turn off system...place hard drive back in...start system but do not release finger...you will hear 1 beep then 2....after second you will want to realease..multiple options are given...choose rebuild hard drive...screw sony they wanted to charge me...i figured it out myself...oh and screw you sony for not telling us its all about the dollar...
Try turning it on from standby as usual. However, hold it for a little bit longer. You will hear two more beeps. This will return some aspects of the system to a default setting. If this does not work, go to us.playstation.com and browse the support section. You may have to send it back to Sony.
Hey guys, same thing happened to me. In case you're looking at this site like I recently had been, I just wanted to post a little update. I bought my PS3 on the Christmas of 2007, and it stopped working after I played an online round of Tekken: Dark Resurrection on July 5. It froze on the wavy part of the introduction of the PS3 system. So what you do is:
1. Press the PS3 "touch" power button and hold it until you hear two buttons "beep" 2. Connect your USB cord to your ps3 controller and press the center button when instructed on the screen. 3. Choose the third choice on the screen which says something about restoring the data (sorry i cant remember i know its the third choice though) 4. When it asks you its question say "Yes." and it will begin the restoring process with the download bar. 5. When its complete it may make you do step 4 once more, so just do it again, or any more times it asks, until it finally restarts properly. ( I had to do it two times)
I hope this helps you guys, it helped me the first day it stopped working!
you have dust build up brother. take a can of dust off and while the system is running pulse some air throught the front vents. you should see gobs of brown dust flying out the back....you system is freezing because its overheating(is that an oxymoron?) good luck!
