SOURCE: HP 4200 printer paper jam. No paper is jammed

check this out....when the printer reports the jam, open the paper tray very carefully and slowly.

Has the paper moved at all forward? Has it moved like 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch out of the tray?

If so, you probabaly need a torque limiter, no tools, $10 or so and a very very easy fix.

POBCM is very correct when he points out that the block/stop in the back of the tray moves when the tray is closed with too much force and this is the #1 cause most of the time.

You may see a "41.3" code displayed if the block is not up to the back of the paper and the paper is not all the way forward in the trays, and under the two metal clips at the front of the tray.

SOURCE: after setting the paper type to card stock to thin

This happens to be one of my least favorite printers.

Here is my suggestion:

Open up the cover and remove all 4 of the imaging units (with the toner cartridge). Also, remove the Fuser. While removing them, look for any bits of paper that may have gotten missed while clearing the jam.

Replace all of the items above and see if the printer still has a paper jam. It shouldn't.

Since, I assume you are manual feeding the card stock (the lower drawer doesn't allow for card stock to be used), look at the manual feed opening. There should be a small metal piece about 3" wide and less than 1/4" thick. Make sure it's attached properly. Ours unseated itself and is continuing to cause manual feed issues. This can be fixed but requires a good portion of the printer to be opened up to reseat the little metal piece.

Hope this helps.

We are trying to print on a card stock ,110 lb. , 8.5x11 Paper keeps jamming. Will this printer work with card stock?

It will only work if the printer supports feed through from the back. If the paper has to go in the same side of the printer that it comes out it will jam.

Trying to print on card stock paper and get a paper jam Is there a setting for printing on card stock paper?

Hi Fuller90

Read your issue.
1. Kindly check the thickness of the paper. If the thickness of the paper or the card is more then normal paper, you will experience the paper Jam on this printer model.
2. You can try this step..... Take the Power cable out from the printer.
3. Press and hold down the power button for 35 seconds.
4. Now release the button and then plugin the power cable.
5. Check your issue.

I AM TRYING TO PRINT HEAVY STOCK CHRISTMAS CARDS -

If its heavier than 60 to 105 gsm (16 to 28 lb), then your printer can not take that type.
HP Specifications
Unless there is a manual feed on the back, the paper won't be able to bend well inside of the printer, hence the jam.

HP 5610v states 'paper jam' and there isn't one - how to reset?

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this, is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

5610 will not print on color paper

I'm wondering if the paper weight and/or size is exceeding the printer's specifications. The paper tray specs on HP's site says it will take up to 110 lb card stock, but as far as paper stock, it can take only up to 24 lbs. Have a look at the printer's product specifications page and see if this could be the issue:

Can't Print on Card

I had the same problem with my 3 year old HP Officejet 5610. Feeding heavy paper or white card stock would result in a paper jam. The card stock would start to feed, but then stop half way. The pinch rollers seemed to spin without advancing the paper, even if the paper was fed one sheet at a time.

Solution: Clean the rubber pinch rollers with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Partial disassembly/reassembly required.

To access the rollers, remove the scanner plate:
1. Disconnect power, USB, and phone cables.
2. Open up the scanner sheet feeder by tilting it left.
3. Unlatch the scanner scanner feeder so that it opens completely vertical. Latch is on front hinge only.
4. Remove the 4 corner hex screws on the scanner plate. Remove the 2 hex screws on the sheet feeder. (I used a small flat blade screw driver in the hex heads)
4. Lift the plate and sheet feeder away from printer box. Disconnect the 2 flat cable wires from the circuit board.
5. Scrub rubber pinch rollers with alcohol on a swab. Dry thoughly.
6. Reassemble. (NOTE: This is a good time to clean the underside of the glass plate and the scanner head)
