On Battery or Plugged in? You didn't post the OS you are using, Open the Power Options, set to High Performance, open Change Plan settings, Adjust to your preference, Change Advanced settings to your preference.
There is two different setups for plugged Laptop and unplugged. Just try to use FN button + probably F8 (button with the sun and arrow) on the keyboard. Setups should stay, if not there should be other setup in windows energy managment. ( find battery icon in control panel)
That cause by setting at Power Management setting. If your laptop setting is default, LCD back light is 60% if you running on battery and 100% when running with plug in. You also can change a setting at :
1- Go to Control Panel 2- Go to System & Security 3- Go to Power Option 4- Change Plan Setting

Go to settings, go to display, and move the bar up or look for icons at the top of your keyboard that looks like the sun and press them. If your screen is still dark, then you need a new bulb.
