Question about Belkin Wireless Pre-N (F5D8230-4) Router (F5D82304)

2 Answers

If i have a belkin pre-n router (# F5D8230-4) will i be able to connect with a "G" 2.0 adapter or should i get a "N" adapter. When I told the guys at my local retail, they did not know what a "pre-n" router was and suggested that I get the "g". I have not opened it yet to test. Thanks

Because the routers are pre-N they will support B-N because n isnt standard and is still a little touchy. you will be fine. but the downside, you arent getting the true N speed because your comp is running G, if you could elaborate on your computer a bit more im sure we could find an N internal card to replace the G stock. let us know

CAREFUL, as I have just discovered after several e-mail exchanges with Belkin technical support, new "N" devices (even those made by Belkin) are NOT compatible with Belkin pre-N routers for full 100Mbps performance.
They are only compatible at the "G" standard and will only transmit a maximum of 54Mbps.
Do NOT buy a new N device expecting to get 100Mbps communication with your Belkin "pre-N" router

Hi. My Belkin wireless pre-n has no power, no lights. Tried different power adapter and reset, but no lights. Mark

If you cant get power to it try another power adapter with same amps if that dont work its most likely shot its most likely a diode if you can solder you can take it apart and with ohm meter figure out the one that is burnt most likely be better off purchasing one,

I need to know which power adapter to use in connecting my Belkin Wireless Pre-N router Part # F5D8230-4. Somehow my son mixed the adapter in with a box of others that were ready to be recycled. Is there...

look on the router on the bottom or at the power jack. The voltage and amperage level will be there. Then match it to the power supply that fits and has the same voltage/amp output.

Is belkin router f5d8230-4 a g or n? i need tyhis

It is a PRE-N router, which means:

When you see a “pre-n” product, it is one designed based on the future “n.”
standard, but is not a standard. It will generally only work with that companies devices, which means if you buy brand XYZ’s wireless router, you will also need to buy brand XYZ’s wireless networking adapters for all of your computers.
Interoperability between pre-n and non pre-n devices can be difficult and even if you get it to work, you don’t gain anything unless everything is pre-n.

Connection between wifi radio and Belkin pre-N router

To reset your router to factory settings ther should be a reset switch on the back you will need to use a paper clip to do. Hold in for about 15 sec to reset.

Sounds like you have customized the router a bit so I would copy your current settings for your network unless you don't have much then I would just start over.

Belkin Pre-N Wifi - Speed problem

Hi,

When using a laptop that has a N-wireless card the computer will to connect to a G-wireless router the laptop will be able to connect but because the router is a G-wireless the speeds will not be as fast. speeds around 10 to 20 Mbps is about normal. I don't know why your computer is saying that you are getting speeds around 108 Mbps. Residential computers don't reach speeds that fast but some business computers running off of an T-3 internet will have speeds up to that high so that they can keep up with large amount of data being transferred over there networks. As for the USB, i have seen an USB adapter that was g-wireless at at Wal-mart for about $20-30.

Connection problem

It sounds as if either the router is not set at enable DHCP which gives your pc's wireless adapters an automatic assigned ip address, so check in the routers settings via your web browser normally by typing 192.168.2.1 and check that DHCP is enabled and look in the menus and see if the transfer speed is set correctly at 54 mbps, the same as your wireless adapters. Also go to your wireless network adapters in network connections in control panel, right click on your wireless connection icon and go to the properties, select the TCP/IP line, click properties again and make sure automatically obtain ip address is ticked, ok it and close window. The problem with 'pre n' routers is that this setup was released before the alloted 'N' type transfer speeds and required firmware, hence named 'pre n' and can be quite troublesome at times. If you go through the above proceedure they should all connect, but you must also check in my computer, right click then click properties and look at the computer name tab and check that all the pc's are set at the same workgroup name, normally 'workgroup' or 'mshome', otherwise each pc will not be able to see each other.
