Question about Ventamatic Gable Mount Power Attic Ventilator Fan

Replace old attic fan motor, or replace the entire fan assembly.

Hello,I need to replace a motor for a Ventamatic attic fan. I called Ventamatic and was told the attic fan replacement motor is part #XE401. However, someone on this website suggested replacing the entire fan for a few bucks more, as the replacement part is almost as expensive as a new fan. He said you may as well get new blades, thermostat, etc., instead of just the motor (for the cost). Question 1: What do you recommend? The attic fan is at least 11 years old. Question 2: To replace an attic fan, do I need to go through the roof from the outside, or can this be done from in the attic? Is this something I can do (I'm not a fix-it-up kind of guy), or should I hire an electician or contractor to replace the fan? Thanks in advance!Ken W.

I am assuming you replaced your fan by now. However in the future call Gibraltar Industries, they are the ones who manufacture all fans and motors. My attic motor fan also died and I first called Ventamatic and they wanted $65 for a new motor. I then called Gibraltar and they shipped one our for free. 800-527-1924.

I dont know what story you gave Gibralters! When I called them they do not have /sell any replacements for Ventamatic xe401 motors. They insisted that I go to butler ventamatic. They replace only Gibralter attic fan motors instaled in their complete attic fan system. That is available in Lowes. Regarding free replacement it is a joke unless you have a motor still under warranty.

In many cases the fan motor assembly comes with the thermostat control. Check this out before deciding.

What you can do is remove the blower assembly from the hood and replace the motors; try Grainger, etc. If it is just as expensive to replace the motors as it is to buy the motor assembly, by the entire assembly until your budget allows you to do the upgrade..

I have 120v going to fan ,thermostat has been put on 80 degrees and it still won't work .Do the heat sensors go bad ?

The heat sensor or thermal switch can go bad, so can the motor.
Try a few things;
shut off power going to fan. try cleaning out the thermostat housing using some compressed air on low pressure, or use a vacuum cleaner on blow, or a hair dryer on no heat. you can also spray the inside with contact/motor cleaner(home depot electric dept.) and then blow the thermostat out of any dust or particles that may have lodged inside.
To see if the thermostat works at all, turn power to fan on. Take a hair dryer on heat and place near thermostat - to see if fan comes on.
To rule out a bad motor, the thermostat can be bypassed by hooking up the feed wires to the fan itself, if you're handy with wiring.
Ventamatic web site does list replacement parts for fans... Good luck!

Attic fan motor replacement

It sounds like you are replacing a two speed motor with a single speed. Check the side of the old motor and see if it has high and low speed wiring schematics. If so you need to replace with same model number. Good luck!

Attic fan stops running after one hour

I need to verify you have adaquate air flow, to cool the motor. If you have a window open, and the crawl hole open is there enough air flow into the the attic? It there is enough air flow and it still stops after about an hour, does this unit have a humidistate and a temperature switch on the housing or extension.
If all the switches are working correctly then I could be the motor overloading/heating shutting down and then reseting.

Attic roof vent fan- brand unknown. need motor and blade

Any Blade will be ok if it will fit shaft and they all should be cosistant and of course the higher the amp the better quality.I like the Pro 3 model at Home depot but I believe the Pro 1 gable is the 12 inch blade, pro 3 is 17 inch houseing and maybe 12 inch also.
