Sounds your like you Typical Blue Screen of Death. If windows is doing this constantly, is there anything in particular that causes it to happen. This is typically caused by bad drivers. Try Undo-ing anything you recently did. This may solve the problem. If this was a 1 time occurrence, Don't worry about it, nothing is likely wrong with your computer.

'' a problem has been detected and windows has shutdown to prevent damage''

From the description it is the hard drive that is the problem, format the whole hardware and re-install your xp windows to see if that will clear up the problem, if not! have the hard drive tested to see if it must be replaced.

Unable to get into safe mode

hi there !

-try t drain everything out of the computer first; remove the power adapter then remove the battery; after 1 minute try again; if problem persists run diagnostics
--while the computer is off, press and hld the "Fn" key then press the power button at the same time to start the test; note down error message then consult manufacturer for the code obtained. if no errors found it is a windows problem; you need to reinstall windows on the computer

cheers!

My computer shut down windows to prevent damage from my computer

Try tapping the F5 or F8 key (could be either one) right after you power up. This should take you to a short text message with a couple of choices to continue; you'll find the Safe Mode option there.
